What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Services Information Assistant position at Merrick Library?
Overview:
The Merrick Library is seeking a community-minded professional who loves to work with the public, is organized and detail-oriented, and approaches work with creativity, a desire to learn, and a sense of fun. This is a noncompetitive position in the Nassau County Civil Service. You are not required to be on a list. You must be a current resident of Nassau County who has been a resident for at least one year.
Job Duties:
-Assists patrons in locating information about, contacting, and receiving services from community organizations, government agencies, schools, and other local resources.
-Hosts lectures, classes, and public forums to provide the community with information, education, and assistance on topics of local interest; speaks to community groups on available services.
-Coordinates use of library space for community services such as tax help, driver's education, blood drives, health screenings, and related initiatives.
-Maintains physical and digital collections of community information and resources; maintains community bulletin board.
-Additional related duties as assigned by the Library Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one registered by the State of New York and one year of satisfactory experience in areas related to community activities, or graduation from high school and five years in community activities including one year involving public information work.
Hours, Salary, and Benefits
Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some evenings and weekends are required for programming, events, and other needs related to the position.
Starting salary range is $55,000 to $65,000.
NYSHIP membership is available; joining the NYS Retirement System is required.
