Meta’s work in augmented and virtual reality spans a number of breakthrough technologies and touches industries ranging from entertainment and gaming to education and beyond. The VR Core UX team is looking for an experienced, hands-on product design leader with people management skills and strong technical expertise. The ideal candidate has experience managing a team to develop 3D games or other real time interactive 3D software and is passionate about advancing the boundaries in spatial computing. The ideal candidate is an experienced product design leader who flourishes working in an ambiguous technology space at the front end of VR & MR products and tools. This position will afford you the opportunity to explore multiple facets of supporting VR & MR prototypes, interfaces, inputs and tools. You will become part of a well established prototyping team and mentor VR prototypers across our overall team, including work for multiple devices and technologies in MR & VR, with a heavy focus on end user experience and internal prototyping tools. As a manager, you will be expected to lead product design prototypers with different specializations from 3D software development, prototyping, game design, to interaction design, and guide them so that they are able to do the best work of their careers. You will be expected to use your full range of product development experience and design skills to raise the quality of the outcome of your team. We want people who work well in interdisciplinary teams, work effectively across domains, capable of brainstorming big ideas, have great product design sense, work in ambiguous technology areas, have an eye for detail, and are comfortable working on a variety of software systems and wearing a lot of hats.
Prototyping Manager, Reality Labs Responsibilities
- Identifies and frames up new projects and opportunities. Improves processes to help the organization be more effective.
- Lead a technical prototyping team to demonstrate strong technical craft and level of detail, elevating the product experience with their work.
- Support the team in developing good solutions efficiently, showing mastery of iteration. Takes responsibility for all the dimensions of quality (level of detail, stability, usability, and performance) for the prototypes created by the team.
- Pro-actively nurture a team culture that cares and pays attention to the full product journey (concept, test, shipping, updating).
- Demonstrates the ability to ramp on new tools and systems quickly, and can demonstrate a mastery (or past experience) of developing/supporting/using prototyping tools.
- Lead the team in the creation of prototyping tools that enables others and able to generalize work into systems/components that other prototypes benefit from.
- Lead the creation of scalable architecture for larger or collaborative prototypes that enables quick iteration for themselves and others.
Minimum Qualifications
- 4 years experience shipping, or Incubating 3D real time experiences or tools
- 2 years experience building, managing or leading teams of at least 5 full-time prototypers
- Experience with real-time 3D development (i.e., Unity/C#)
- Proven experience to communicate across organizations
- Proven problem solving experience and experience overcoming challenges
- Proven experience in creating or leading the creation of prototypes that intersect all quality of the user experience (look and feel, Motion, Audio, level of detail, usability, and performance)
- UI/Interaction development experience in a 3D product
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with delivering 0-1 products from concept stages to launch
- At least 1 VR product in your portfolio
- Experience to thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments
- Game or interaction development experience across multiple surfaces (console, mobile, PC, VR, AR)
