What are the responsibilities and job description for the AD/Director, Procurement position at Metagenomi?
We are seeking a detail and solutions-oriented AD/Director, Procurement to establish, lead, and manage the procurement function at Metagenomi. Reporting to the VP Finance, the Director will play a crucial role in refining and executing a procurement roadmap, policy framework, operations, and reporting to ensure the organization can acquire goods and services at the optimal time, quality, and cost balance. The role will be responsible for Category Management, Strategic Sourcing, contract negotiations (in conjunction with Legal), partnering with business stakeholders, purchasing, and supplier relationship management. This role will be based in Emeryville, California.
How you’ll contribute:
- Validate and implement a Procurement roadmap at a rapidly growing and maturing pre-commercial biotech
- Develop and implement procurement strategies and policies to ensure the organization can acquire goods and services at the optimal balance of price, quality, and risk
- Manage and lead the procurement function, including setting goals and objectives
- Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers and vendors to ensure the organization gets the best possible prices and terms
- Oversee the order management process (requisition to receipt), ensuring alignment with sourcing and contracting processes, appropriate controls, and ongoing efficiency improvements
- Establish a Supplier Relationship and Performance Management program to fully leverage the value of supplier relationships while managing critical supply chain risks
- Develop and implement a scalable process and toolset to plan for and source lab equipment in collaboration with Finance, Legal, Lab Operations, and scientific teams
- Partner with respective business units (primarily Technical Operations and Lab Operations) to ensure continuity of supply
- Ensure compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements
- Prepare and manage procurement budgets and forecasts
- Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to understand their needs and ensure procurement aligns with the overall goals and objectives of the organization
- Track and report on procurement metrics, such as spend, savings, and supplier diversity.
What you bring:
- Bachelor's degree in procurement, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field; Masters degree or MBA a plus
- Minimum of 8 years experience in procurement, including at least three years of leadership or management experience in biotechnology or pharma
- Experience with procurement software and tools, such as e-sourcing, e-procurement, and e-invoicing
- Familiarity with legal and regulatory requirements related to procurement, including anti-corruption laws and regulations
- Strong project management skills and ability to manage and deliver on multiple projects simultaneously
- Working knowledge of supply chain experience, logistics, and distribution
- Professional certification in procurement or supply chain management preferred
- Process-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective prioritization and organizational skills

California Pay Transparency Disclosure:
This position is classified as an exempt position under the Federal Labor Standards Act. The anticipated base salary range for this position will be $165,000 to $216,000. You will also be eligible to receive equity, bonuses, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits depending on the position offered. Please note that individual total compensation for this position will be determined at the Company’s sole discretion and may vary based on location, skill level, years and depth of relevant experience, and education.
