POSITION SUMMARY
The Perioperative Clinical Educator is an excellent clinician who assists the perioperative leadership team in providing educational support to staff, patients, and families. Works in collaboration with the medical and hospital staff to provide multidisciplinary care of patients. Utilizing knowledge of educational needs in a healthcare environment and adult learning principles, the Perioperative Clinical Educator provides for the development of selected core curriculum, program planning and clinical oversight for new and existing staff. Has instructional responsibilities to improve the quality of care and applies good verbal and non-verbal skills to achieve service goals of good clinical outcomes, customer satisfaction and a positive work environment. Responsible for assisting the Executive Director, manager, and supervisor in planning, implementing, and evaluating perioperative services, quality performance improvement programs through departmental and interdepartmental quality improvement and organization wide planning activities. Demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the unit and the organization. Applies good verbal and non-verbal skills to achieve service goals of customer satisfaction and a positive work environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accountable to Executive Director of Perioperative Services for overall work performance.
- Resource in identification of hospital staff with specific expertise for education and/or need for remediation and develops opportunities for growth.
- Assists with organization and facilitates annual updates for all staff, including regulatory topics, skills days, and BLS/ACLS training and retraining.
- Develops and implements a systematic process for the assessment, development, and evaluation of the facility’s health care staff in order to promote positive patient outcomes and experience.
- Demonstrates understanding and commitment to the facility’s IRAISE values, mission, vision, goals, policies, procedures, role expectations and other functions needed to perform in the Perioperative care environments.
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the adult learning process and is able to apply the process in instructing, guiding, and evaluating the learning of others. Ability to adapt to unique age related, development, or cultural/language needs of participants.
- Demonstrates clinical performance in the department, acting as a clinical resource.
- Demonstrates clinical experience and/or expertise in devices: IABP, Impella, Prismaflex, CRRT, defibrillator, Integra ICP.
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills in relationships with management, staff, physicians, patients, families, and the community.
- Displays a professional commitment to the organization, supporting the unit team and promoting unity and teamwork.
- Maintains clinical expertise by attending educational programs, reviewing pertinent literature, clinical practice, and networking with peers.
- Participates in classroom and clinical orientation of new employees, providing for coordinator of preceptorships and competency validation
- Participates in hospital committees as assigned and pertinent to specific area of practice.
- Participates in nursing unit activities, in collaboration with the manager, and provides educational resources for staff meetings, unit in-services, and patient education.
- Participates in the department and organization wide Performance Improvement Program through orientation, education, departmental and interdepartmental quality control, quality improvement, and quality planning activities.
- Participates in the development of core curriculum and self-study modules for selected topics.
- Participates in the formulation and review of policies and procedures, standards of care, and/or standards of practice.
- Plans and participates in patient education as indicated.
- Promotes problem solving (critical thinking).
- Plans, coordinates and conducts learning programs which are relevant to the learning needs of the hospital staff, patients/clients, and community.
- Provides a professional and competent role model for customer service and collaborative practice. Acts as an administrative resource.
- Recruits, selects, schedules and assists outside instructors for selected programs.
- Serves as a course facilitator for selected workshops and other courses.
- Supervise and evaluate the work performance of team members.
- Facilitate career development, career coaching, assisting in role transition, and planning for succession.
- Supports a safe, blame free and healing environment for patients, visitors and personnel.

Bachelor degree in Nursing

5 years recent perioperative experience required for those new to the educator role

Pay Transparency
The annual base salary range for this position is $109,744.08 - $144,078.48. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California Arcadia Hospital considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, State, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
