Description
Performs constant surveillance of a facility or designated area in a facility that has an impaired fire protection system that is occupied to alert occupants of the need to evacuate the facility in the event an emergency. Fire watch continuously patrol occupied and affected area for fire hazard and signs of a fire. The incumbent will conduct periodic patrols of the entire facility or designated fire zone in the intervals specified and identify any property, fire, or life safety hazards. Notify CCAD Security and NASCC Fire & Emergency Services if a serious hazard requires immediate action. The incumbent must properly identify the exact address, building number and type of emergency. Notify occupants of the facility of the need to evacuate. If the alarms or public address function of the alarm system are still functional, use them to notify occupants to evacuate. If the alarms systems are not functional use air horn, fire triangle, or shout, "Fire, Fire, Fire" to alert occupants to evacuate the facility of fire zone. During patrols, the incumbent will ensure means of egress are free of obstructions that would impede egress. Report any obstructions noted to the Chief, Safety and Occupational Health Office or designated official for correction. At the beginning on every shift incumbent will assure fire extinguishers are in place and perform visual inspection of the units to verify their serviceable operating condition. Maintain at least one means of communication with NASCC Fire & Emergency Services. Maintain a log of the fire watch activities. The log shall be available to CCAD Safety, Security, and NASCC Fire & Emergency Services at all times. Recommends changes and additions to fire watch duties to ensure compliance with fire prevention and protection requirements. Adapts standard fire preventive practices and procedures to local requirements. Have knowledge of the location and use of fire protection equipment, such as fire extinguishers and pull stations.
Requirements
6 months of related work experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Must be able to meet any Government / Company licensing / qualification requirements.
Able to read, write, understand, and communicate the English language and follow verbal and written instruction.
Must have a valid state driver’s license.
Work Authorization
Employee must be a US citizen.
