Position Overview:
Boston magazine, one of America’s most honored and respected city magazines, is seeking an Editor to conceptualize and execute the look and feel of its quarterly Boston Home and semi-annual Boston Weddings print publications, the leading voices in home and weddings content in our market. The ideal candidate has an outstanding ability to generate story ideas, knows how to write and edit polished copy that leaps off the page and screen, and has a playful sense of humor that translates to headline writing and story ideas. This person will work collaboratively with an art director and the chief content officer to develop original story and art concepts and execute award winning work. We are seeking an experienced manager and a proven thought-leader in design, magazine-making, and storytelling. Strong conceptual thinking and hands-on design skills are necessary. As the face and voice of the two publications, candidates are also expected to speak at live events throughout the year and spend considerable time engaging with members of the design and weddings communities.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Must have at least 3 years of experience at a lifestyle publication, preferably print.
  • Ability to collaborate across the edit team with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead others.
  • Ability to delegate, assign, set objectives, provide positive feedback and take corrective action, if necessary.
  • Ability to speak at live events throughout the year and consistently network with members of the weddings and home design communities.
  • Ability to lead large complex projects, work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple and changing priorities simultaneously.
  • Attentional-to-detail, scheduling, and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with Wordpress and Adobe InDesign

Responsibilities/Duties:
  • Sets Boston’s Home and Weddings editorial agenda, both short- and long-term.
  • Leads editorial planning and discussions to set direction and tone of content.
  • Serves as the face of the brands, attending regular events and networking opportunities.
  • Conceives of and edits each issue, as well as writes section, feature stories, and social media copy, manages freelancers, edits social media copy, ensures proper fact-checking, and oversees the day-to-day operation of the Home and Weddings editorial team in all of its functions and duties.
