What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fitness Floor Associate-Health & Wellness position at Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges?
Under the general direction of the Health & Wellness Director, the Fitness Floor Associate provides customer service, guidance and leadership to all members and participants in the Fitness Center. The individual is responsible to maintain a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Instruct members about safe and effective exercise techniques using exercise equipment that includes but is not limited to weight equipment, cardio machines and free weights.
Answer questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Motivate and assist members and participants with their wellness and fitness programs.
Build effective and authentic relationships with members; help members connect with each other and the YMCA.
Maintain working knowledge of wellness and trend to provide effective information and support to members.
Assist members and participants with spotting while weight lifting.
Observe participants and members activities; enforce safety regulations and positively explain and interpret all YMCA safety policies.
Walk through and monitor the Fitness Center periodically.
Report any equipment problems to the Director and maintain the Fitness Center’s cleanliness.
Complete Fitness Floor checklist (cleaning and maintaining all equipment in Fitness Center) in its entirety.
Complete opening and closing checklist and sign every shift (when applicable).
Follow YMCA policies and procedures; respond to emergency situations.
Maintain require certificates.
Attend mandatory meetings and trainings.
Demonstrate and model the YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
Exhibit personal and professional behavior in a manner consistent with the best interest of the Association, so as not to bring discredit to the Association.
Perform other job-related duties as may be periodically assigned by the Supervisor.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
High School Diploma, Associate/Bachelors Degree in related field preferred or equivalent experience.
CPR, First Aid and AED Certifications or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
Working knowledge of body mechanics and physical fitness principles.
Certification in areas of expertise.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with members and staff.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position including walking, standing, bending, reaching and lifting.
Physical ability to lift and move 60lbs. Individual must be able to perform related physical skills such as spotting in a safe manner. Ability to stand for extended periods of time (3-4 hours). Must have the visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents. Must possess the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
