What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gymnastics Coach position at MetroWest YMCA?
The Gymnastics and Dance Coach is responsible for overall administration of gymnastics and dance programming in accordance with the policies established by the Board of Directors of the MetroWest YMCA, along with the mission and goals of the YMCA. The Director will also be responsible for the development and management of the gymnastics camp program. This position will play a key role in community and member relationships. PROGRAM MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT:
- Develops, implements, and manages operating plans for gymnastics and dance programming, including recreational and progressive gymnastics, preschool and school age dance, and summer gymnastics camp.
- Collaborates with Sports Director in providing school vacation week camps.
- Ensures proper building coverage is present for all program related functions in accordance with program needs. May act as the Professional on duty at least one night a week.
- Establishes new program activities and expands programs in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT:
- Executes strategies to ensure that members and program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA, including leading parent meetings and focus groups. Communicates regularly through newsletters.
- Participates in family events.
- Manages preschool open gym in collaboration with Family Experience Director
BUDGET AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT:
- Develops and controls department budget related to the position.
- Maintain accurate and up to date records, files, and billing and collection procedures.
- Responsible for processing refunds, credits and entering program table files.
STAFF ENGAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT:
- Hire, train and supervise program staff. Facilitate communication and provide leadership. Model relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
- Ensures a positive working and program environment emphasizing the YMCA’s areas of focus and character values.
- Communicate and work with other program and membership directors in order to effectively provide programs and services.
VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT:
- Supervise the development and recruitment of volunteer staff and interns.
- Establish and manage a program advisory committee.
FACILITY MANAGEMENT:
- Follow and enforce safety guidelines at all times ensuring a safe environment, both physically and emotionally, for all participants and staff. Ensure compliance with state and local regulations and ensure that program standards are met.
- Work cooperatively with the Facilities Department to ensure the cleanliness and safety of all program equipment and facility areas.
- Provide leadership in the organization, preparation, and upkeep of program equipment.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND SUPPORT:
- Take part in and solicit others to participate in the YMCA’s Annual Campaign and associated fundraising activities.
- Responsible for participating and assisting in planning of community outreach and family events.
- Engage in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum three years gymnastics instruction and lesson planning.
- USAG certification.
- Completion of First Aid and CPR training within 60 days of hire.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- A passion for supporting positive youth development through gymnastics and dance.
- Bilingual a plus, English-Portuguese and/or English-Spanish.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs). Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and spot participants up to 18 years old.
- Ability to hear and see activities and problems as they occur.
