The MFAH Department of Learning and Interpretation (L&I) engages intergenerational audiences, students, and diverse communities in Houston with the Museum’s collections and exhibitions of world art. The Public Programs area of L&I works with staff across the Museum to better reach and engage audiences through traditional lectures, concerts, and tours, and to grow new audiences through innovative participatory programming.
The Part-time Production Assistant supports the implementation of Public Programs in the Museum’s auditorium, gallery, and campus spaces. This position provides administrative and logistical support directly with speakers, artists, and performers on the day of the program.
Responsibilities:
- Complete administrative tasks to support program planning, including managing room/space reservations, deliver internal procurement forms for interdepartmental collaboration, and be accountable to deadlines.
- Develop strong, collaborative working relationships within L&I, as well as Museum departments, including A/V, Special Events, Engineering and Facilities, to coordinate logistics for programs.
- Act as House Manager on the day of programs, implementing the run-of-show, welcoming and providing for the needs of speakers and performers, as well as greeting guests to the program to ensure a welcoming environment for presenters/participants.
- Gather program metrics such as taking event photos and attendance, facilitate program delivery on the day-of, and expedite overall program production by anticipating needs of programs.

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma, GED or an equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable and demonstrable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
- B.A. or Associates degree in Humanities; Visual, Performing Arts, Film; or Communications preferred
- 2 or more years experience working in a similar capacity

Reports to: Manager of Public Programs
Classification: Non Exempt/Hourly
Schedule: Part Time - 20 hour work week
Compensation: $16.50/hr.
Work Location: Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

Salary will be commensurate with the applicant's experience and the needs and requirements expressed in the job description.
