Senior Counsel, Government Contracting Location Washington, D.C.; Richmond, Virginia; Atlanta, Georgia; Dallas, Texas Current Need McKesson’s General Counsel Organization (GCO) works collaboratively with our business teams and other members of the GCO to help the Company improve health outcomes for all. McKesson is one of the largest government contractors with contracts with virtually all federal agencies involved in healthcare. McKesson has played a key role in supporting the government’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Position Description McKesson seeks an experienced government contracts attorney with four to six years of law firm or in-house (company or government) legal experience supporting contracting with the federal government. This role will report to a McKesson Lead Counsel, Government Contracting and primarily support the McKesson Medical Surgical supplies business unit. Primary responsibilities Provide legal support for McKesson’s pursuit and performance of federal, state, and local government contracts; Develop close working relationship with business stakeholders to facilitate efficient and effective review of solicitations and preparation of proposals; Work directly with business leaders and other members of the GCO to identify and address risks and issues raised by contracting with the government; Represent McKesson in engagements with government attorneys and contracting professionals; Collaborate with other attorneys and members of the GCO and business teams that engage with government customers to advise, develop and implement appropriate compliance processes and controls that appropriately address government contracting requirements; Serves as a legal advisor to business unit leaders on a wide array of topics relating to segment needs, including legal risk mitigation, customer management, strategic initiatives and compliance programs; Experience with Federal Supply Schedules (GSA and VA) and bid protests preferred; and Experience with the healthcare industry or other areas of federal oversight are desired Minimum Qualifications Juris Doctor Degree and a member in a State bar. Critical Skills Knowledge of federal, state, and local government contracting rules Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to provide sound, clear legal advice within the company, including senior business executives Ability to adapt communication style depending on the recipient’s level of sophistication about legal issues Comfortable working on multiple projects concurrently Business acumen dealing with risk management and organizational savvy Ability to work closely with, facilitate interactions within, and influence large cross-functional teams (including representatives from other areas of the General Counsel Organization regulatory and compliance professionals, sales professionals and operations managers) Must be a team player who can develop strong working relationships and work collaboratively with internal clients and other members of the legal team McKesson is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
