About the Small Projects Group
The Small Projects Group (SPG) was started in 2018 as the project-execution side of our Lifecycle Performance Services (LPS) division. The SPG focuses on system optimization, additions, retrofits, and upgrades to our customer’s conveyor systems. We specialize in a wide range of equipment types such as automated sorters, singulators, gappers, extendable conveyors, and transport conveyors. Our projects range in size from small equipment swap outs to complete subsystem installs. We service a wide range of companies in the logistics and warehouse distribution/fulfillment industries.
Job Summary:
The Mechanical Engineering Supervisor will lead and build a mechanical engineering department that focuses on the successful completion of projects, promotes professional growth of team members, and supports the growth needs of the Small Projects Group (SPG). This position will achieve these goals by focusing in five main areas: project execution, training and mentoring, capacity planning, process creation and improvement, and professional development of team members.
The Mechanical Engineering department is part of a cross-discipline project team, responsible for the successful and on time completion of conveyor upgrade and system integration projects. The department works closely with engineering subcontractors, fabrication and manufacturing vendors, project managers, electrical and controls engineers, installation teams, permit specialists, estimating, business development and various support roles.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervise the mechanical engineering team, allocating them to projects within the team's capacity and mentoring them into improving Engineers.
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of customer’s design standards and specifications.
Oversee the successful execution of projects per contract scope.
Ensure proper training of the team and develop new training programs where needed.
Ensure capacity plan meets SPG growth needs. Develop hiring and subcontracting plans to meet these needs.
Ensure department processes meet the needs of our team and projects. Develop new processes where needed.
Ensure that the professional growth of the team is always a priority.
Contribute to the development of KPIs and Goals for the department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Willingness to travel up to 20%.
Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite. – Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
Knowledgeable and experienced with Autodesk suite - AutoCad, Inventor, Vault, Recap, Navisworks, and BIM.
Passionate about the development of team-members and facilitating a cohesive team environment.
Knowledgeable of mechanical engineering theories and principles.
Material Handling Industry experience preferred.
Experience in a leadership position preferred.
