Description
Financial Strategy
- Maintain a profitable business plan to ensure the economic sustainability of the Organization's strategic plan
- Provide guidance and oversight for all budgeting activity associated with project and program development, frequently funded by grants
- Provide a financial expert's voice for external stakeholders including strategic donor relationships and guide all financial presentations
- Maintain annual fund-raising targets, working closely with the Development team to ensure that fund-raising goals are being met and timed to the needs of the Organization
- Educate and maintain internal processes to obtain the highest level of financial prudence possible. Oversee controls to safeguard assets, ensure transactions are properly recorded and the accounting records accurately reflect all donor specific earmarks
- Provide the perspective and guidance to continue to improve business intelligence platform, connecting and sharing information across divisions
Financial Management
- Manage and develop staff of four professionals responsible for the day-to-day finance responsibilities of the Organization:
- Payroll, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
- Financial planning and analysis
- Procurement, purchasing and contract/grant compliance
Present quarterly financial presentations to the Trustees and lead all activities with the Finance and Audit CommitteesMaintain a timely and accurate monthly and annual close processEnsure staff are meeting or exceeding their billable hour projectionsProvide oversight to investment portfolio, work closely with financial advisors to ensure funds are properly invested and are in compliance with the Board approved Investment PolicyManage and provide oversight to ensure that all regulatory filings, audits and tax returns are completed accurately and timelySupport multiple entities around the current private equity fund and be a key player assisting in the launch of an additional private equity fund focus on the US.Key role together with the Director of Accounting managing the finances of the overseas for-profit subsidiaries, statutory audits, payroll and compliance. These functions are supported on a day-to-day basis but local accounting firms.Provide constant monitoring on financial risks, taking into consideration project activities, cash flow concerns, and fund-raising pipeline development
Profile
- Significant Senior-level not-for-profit finance experience (10 years) within an organization with an operating budget of at least $15 million; not-for-profit for-profit preferred
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing staff
- Experience managing, conducting, or preparing for annual audits and IRS 990s
- Familiarity with government (US and foreign) reporting and compliance requirements
- Experience using Intacct Financial Accounting software and Salesforce
- Experience forecasting financial models.
- Strong inter-personal skills with a sense of humor
- Solid business acumen
- Distinguished communicator, both verbal and written
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required. CPA or CFA a plus
