POSITION: Nurse

LOCATION: Beacon Day Treatment Center
JOB FOCUS: To enhance student’s education by maximizing their health and well-being, and modify or
remove health related barriers to learning and promoting optimal level of wellness. Performance evaluation to
be completed annually according to the listed job expectations.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold LPN or RN credentials and have the ability to communicate clearly, both
orally and in writing.
DUTIES:
Serve as a medical resource and health advocate for students and staff. Liaison to the health
department. Assist with infectious disease contact tracing.
Assist in identifying health concerns and treatment measures, providing instruction and guidance in the
maintenance of good health practices and disease prevention.
Supervise prescribed medical treatments and medication administration according to School Board
policy and/or train others in medication administration. Assist with support for students with diabetes
and other health conditions.
Plan and implement health care plans for students, including but not limited to: diabetes management,
allergies, asthma, seizure disorders.
Provide assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management and referral for appropriate medical
care of students with acute/chronic health conditions and/or with communicable diseases and emergency
situations.
Certify school staff in First Aid/CPR/AED procedures.
Monitor compliance with current state immunizations and health assessment requirements.
Collaborate with school support staff for health care needs of students.
Educate students, staff and parents/guardians regarding medication administration, medical procedures
(as needed at school), acute/chronic illness management, prevention and control of communicable
diseases, head lice management, emergency care and other health related issues.
Serve upon school committees upon request as a health care advisor.
Participate as a member of the IEP or 504 team as necessary.
Provide information regarding the availability of community resources and assistance to families for
health care services.
Provide assistance for students with medical concerns and physical limitations in adaptations for said
limitations.
Develop and conduct in-service training sessions for school staff on universal precautions, diabetic
management, Epi-pen training, and other health related topics as needed.
Serve as a health related resource for schools disease prevention, immunization records in compliance
with State MCIR and submit reports on a timely basis.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships, with students, parents and staff.
Effectively collaborate with community health care professionals.
