Salary- $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 annually depending on experience.
This position plans, designs, directs, estimates, inspects and analyzes the installation, construction, alteration, operation, and/or repair of energy conservation and Capital Renewal projects of varying complexity relating to HVAC / controls / mechanical systems in new and/or existing facilities; provides conceptual planning and prepares cost estimates of campus-wide and interactive large-scale alterations and new construction projects; actively manages a heavy load of ongoing projects; provides design plans and specifications for campus-wide and interactive projects; oversees and manages all aspects of project management, which include inspection of design, reviews, alterations, procurement, improvements and construction projects in order to ensure compliance with university standards and any other regulatory requirements; provides technical support to the Re-Commissioning Team through review of existing system installations / performance trends / proposing methods for optimization of HVAC control system sequences of operations / helps develop functional performance testing protocols.
This position also acts as a subject matter expert (SME) to solve complex maintenance and operations issues related to HVAC / mechanical / control systems; provides input and updates to university design/ construction standards; analyzes complex architectural, engineering, mechanical, electrical, and/or environmental problems and recommends solutions; answers customer concerns regarding construction costs and acts as a public relations liaison with all MSU stakeholders; reviews and approves project payment applications; also approves and authorizes payments to the State of Michigan; prepares complex technical reports and detailed cost studies; interviews, evaluates, schedules, and recommends employment of employees, recommends internal skilled trades personnel for specialized projects, and negotiates outside contractors where needed; meets and screens new suppliers; also schedules required State inspections and maintains data records for internal systems; defines own goals and objectives based on University strategy; has great latitude to exercise independent judgment and make decisions with few existing guidelines and has full budget responsibility; full autonomy to manage project from cradle to grave; directs activities of university management and non-management employees as it relates to assigned projects; manage campus emergencies 24/7.

The job requires: Knowledge normally acquired by completing a four- year college degree program in Mechanical Engineering Technology, HVAC, Energy Management; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in energy conservation, HVAC and/or construction specific to the work being performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; may require a license in a specified field.
Five years experience in HVAC control system logic development and evaluation; construction project management; energy systems / HVAC / building automation system design review; demonstrated success in identification and implementation of energy conservation projects; review of new, and evaluation/modification of existing, sequence of operations for HVAC control systems; technical report writing; mechanical and electrical estimating experience; experience in the use of HVAC testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB) instrumentation; knowledge of integrated work order management systems (such as FAMIS); experience with document management system (such as Blue Cielo Meridian), experience with project management information system (such as Unifier); ability to utilize computer applications such as Microsoft Office 365 software; strong customer relations and organizational skills; ability to read, interpret, and apply related industry recommendations and standards. Commissioning certification/accreditation and/or knowledge of the commissioning process a plus.
