Optometric Assistant will assist in the smooth operation of the ophthalmology practice. Perform basic, advanced, and complex procedures in assisting the physician. Must be organized, have excellent computer and time management skills. Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other staff members. Must be flexible in work assignments, schedule and committed to ongoing education and upgrading of skills.
Responsibilities
Patient Services:
- Follow Assistant Protocols
- Assist physician with needs/requests, loading rooms, scribing, assisting patients, phone calls, medication/instruments, etc
- Explanation of common surgical procedures (Cataract, DESK, PTK, YAG Cap, SLT, PI and Retinal Lasers).
- Explanation of all IOL lens options
- Basic explanation of Retinal injections
- Administer patient questionnaires
- Basic knowledge of ongoing studies MFEC is involved in
- Strong working knowledge of coding and use of modifiers
- Schedule MRI, CT scans and generate orders for all blood work associate with tests ordered by physicians.
- Constant time management
- Be at work on time
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists physician
- Perform Auto Refraction and Auto Keratometry
- Perform OCT and OPD
- Monitor tech bin and lab bin for Physicians, make patient phone calls
- Report Physician request changes to supervisor
- Communicate effectively with on-site supervisor
- Adhere to MFEC policy manual
- Refrain from workplace gossip
- Other duties as assigned by Clinic Director
Instrument / Exam room maintenance:
- Check all exam rooms for proper supplies and check equipment for proper working conditions
- Perform basic instrument maintenance on equipment (bulbs and batteries)
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED
- Detail orientated, enjoy working with the public and possess exceptional customer service skills.
- Reliable transportation
- LPN, LVN, CNS’s preferred, but will train
