JOB DESCRIPTION
QUALIFICATIONS:
(1) High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred
(2) Valid Florida Driver’s License and acceptable driving record
(3) Satisfactory criminal background check
(4) Prior custodial experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
(1) Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and
procedure manuals. Follow directions and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
(2) To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of current Human Resource leave
system and Skyward inventory system (if applicable).
(3) Ability to function as a member of a harmonious, efficient, highly productive team. Use problem solving and
interpersonal skills to motivate self and others.
(4) Maintain high degree of initiative and dependability

Head Custodian, Principal or Department Director
JOB GOAL
The Custodian will maintain an attractive, sanitary and safe facility for students, staff and public; providing equipment
and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities, and events; and performing minor repairs and
preventive maintenance; and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Serve as a role model for students, dressing and grooming professionally, demonstrating the importance and
relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in your position.
2) Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings,
classroom activities and special events
3) Cleans assigned school or District facilities (e.g. classrooms, offices, restrooms, lunch rooms, halls, carpets,
removes graffiti, windows, walls, bleachers, stage, locker rooms, sidewalks, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of
maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment at the school or District offices.
4) Completes employer required training for the purpose of maintaining current knowledge regarding specific
job and/or district, state and federal rules, regulations, policies and procedures and laws.
5) Distributes supplies, equipment and/or mail (e.g. fill soap dispensers, towel/toilet paper dispensers,
packages, furniture, TV/VCR carts, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating materials to appropriate parties
and/or locations
6) Executes minor repairs (e.g., assembles furniture, changing ballast, plumbing, locks, windows, ceiling tiles,
filters, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
7) Informs students, staff, and visitors for the purpose of providing information regarding activities, safety
and/or proper maintenance of facilities
8) Inspects assigned school or district facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe
operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying/reporting necessary repairs
due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.
9) Maintains supplies and equipment (e.g. cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuum, mops, etc.) for the
purpose of ensuring the availability of items required to properly stock facilities
10) Oversees students assigned to cafeteria or other duties (at the High School and Middle School) for the
purpose of ensuring students receive appropriate instruction, direction and oversight while volunteering
and/or assigned to cafeteria detail.
11) Performs assigned work for the purpose of assisting with the timely and satisfactory completion of special
projects
12) Prepares facility for daily operations (depending on shift) (e.g. opening gates, raising flags, unlocks doors,
crossing signs, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring facilities are operational and safe for occupancy.
13) Provides assistance to others to schedule the facilities for the purpose of ensuring facility usage is accurately
scheduled and providing assistance and information to those requesting use of facilities.
14) Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, alarms, etc.) for the purpose
of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintaining a functioning educational
environment.
15) Secures facilities and grounds (depending on shift) (e.g., lock doors, turn off lights, sets alarm, etc.) for the
purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss and potential liability to the district.
16) Performs all other duties as assigned by administrators
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to
20 pounds of force as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan.
Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District. Position is twelve
or ten months; eight or four hours per day.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the PCSD Board’s policy on
evaluation of personnel.
