Description:

Reporting to the Branch Supervisor, the Damage Prevention Laborer is responsible for providing physical support during all phases of railcar load adjustments at customer job sites. The Damage Prevention Laborer provides a broad range of support in areas such as hand work, moving materials, clearing terrain, site preparation, and basic equipment operation .

Requirements:

  • Must meet the criteria to maintain TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card)

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the Damage Prevention Laborer include, but are not limited to:

  • Load, unload and move railcar contents using hand tools or powered equipment.
  • Signal operators of equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials.
  • Operate equipment such as forklifts and vacuum hoses when needed.
  • Ensures the worksite is organized and free of rubble and garbage.
  • Promotes safe work habits within area of responsibility in a manner not to endanger or injure oneself or others.
  • Maintains up-to-date work credentials and certifications within area of responsibility.
  • Participates as a vital member of the crew and contributions to the safe, efficient and timely completion of the job in a team environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge:

  • Basic knowledge of tool use and safety procedures.
  • Demonstrate initiative and self-motivation.
  • Organizational skills to handle a variety of matters simultaneously.

Competencies, skills, and abilities:

  • Willingness and ability to be on call and work swing shifts and weekends as needed and be able to work extended hours as required in emergencies, equipment or service interruptions, and/or other related circumstances.
  • Ability to read and clearly and professionally communicate orally and in writing in English, with coworkers, crew leader and other company management.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to accept direction and supervision and work effectively and cooperatively with people.
  • Demonstrate professionalism.
  • Accountability, dependability, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent hand, eye, and foot coordination.
  • Excellent sense of balance.
  • High energy and physical stamina.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is outside in all weather conditions including inclement weather, heat, humidity, and sun.
  • Out-of-town travel is required.
  • Overtime is required.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to perform work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to climb to heights and conduct work with proper safety restraints.
  • Must possess visual acuity to operate equipment and motor vehicles.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment is required.
  • Must comply with the company’s drug-free safe workplace policies including drug and alcohol testing requirements including random drug screens.
  • Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and insect repellent when appropriate is recommended.

Pay: $24-$40HR

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 - $40.00 per hour
