Transportation Assistant with Class A CDL
Description The Transportation Assistant is responsible for aiding in the operation of the Transportation Department. This includes the oversight of team members and equipment, as well as the complete satisfaction of our customers during the delivery process.
This position requires extreme attention to detail and sense of urgency in serving customers and reducing operating expenses to ensure that the companys safety, financial, and compliance goals are met or exceeded.
This position also assists the manager with vendors regarding fleet maintenance, turnover and expansion, and handles communication with customers with staff drivers.
This position is a salaried, exempt position.
Position Responsibilities
- Assist the Transportation Manager with the review of driver trip reports daily for accuracy.
- Assist the Transportation Manager with tracking team member scheduling, dispatch, and time off.
- When extra drivers are not available, he / she will be the first driver as backup to go out as needed.
- Conduct ride-a-longs / follow-a-longs for coaching and training.
- Assist Transportation Manager with daily various assignments and duties during his or her absence.
- Monitor and ensure efficient delivery of products to our customers.
- Training of all new drivers in the proper handling customers, products and paperwork.
- Follow up, assist and insure all backhaul / pick-ups for products bought by procurement / third party.
- Ensure compliance with government regulations, especially DOT regulations as outlined in the FMCSA; specifically hours of service regulations with regards to driver logs by conducting audits.
- Develop a working knowledge of equipment specifications needed for the business and order appropriate equipment based on those specifications.
- Ensure vehicle inspections / PMs are performed daily and follow up with mechanic on complaints and file daily.
- Complete any other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Current Class A CDL with a clean driving record
- Minimum 21 years old.
- Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of Electronic EDL logs.
- Basic computer knowledge with experience in Microsoft Office Products.
- Ability to pass a background check for access to Federal Installations.
