The Seattle Health staff is looking for an ASA with experience in health actuarial work. The position requires creative actuarial capabilities, good communication and interpersonal skills, and organizational talents. A high degree of self-motivation and the ability to lead a team of dedicated consultants are also necessary for success. We provide extensive on-the-job training in consulting skills and advanced actuarial techniques.

The staff consists of 100 actuarial professionals in addition to Healthcare Management Consultants, IT, Administrative, and other non-actuarial staff.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities for this position include:
- Performing analysis of healthcare data
- Writing reports that explain technical concepts clearly to a non-technical audience
- Managing project through completion within an expected budget
- Supervising actuarial students in the completion of technical aspects of actuarial projects
Candidates will be expected to develop the ability to manage client relationships. While not required, candidates that learn to successfully generate new business with both new and existing clients are likely to experience the greatest career growth.
Experience/Education
Candidates should possess the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field
- Four or more years of healthcare actuarial experience. Meaningful experience in one or more of the following areas would be considered a “plus”:
- Medicaid rate-setting
- Reserving and year-end statutory financials (“blue” and “orange” blanks)
- ACA pricing/rate filing
- Medicare Advantage, especially bid development and understanding of revenue mechanisms (e.g., risk scores, star ratings)
- Value-based provider contracting
- Employer stop-loss and/or reinsurance pricing
Requirements
Candidates should possess the following qualifications and skills:
- ASA designation
- Good writing and speaking skills
- Proficiency with Excel
- Ability to work both independently and in team environments
In addition to the requirements listed above, we would like candidates that possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Some knowledge of SAS, SQL, or R
- Proven ability to work in a fast-pace environment where client satisfaction is key
- Strong understanding of the US healthcare system
- Demonstrable skills in presenting technical concepts to a non-technical audience in an understandable way
- Entrepreneurial spirit
Salary
Dependent upon experience, with potential for bonus of well over 40% based upon billable hours and business managed.
