MILTON AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT
POSITION TITLE: Custodian
POSITION REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities and Custodial Supervisor
QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma or GED equivalent; Clearances in compliance with PA School Code, TB test results and pre-employment drug screening results; valid PA driver’s license.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, 12-month position. Specific work schedule based on assignment.
Under the direction of the Maintenance/Custodial Supervisor and Head Custodian, custodian will provide support at all locations, on all shifts, and on weekends as needed. As set by the board(250 days, 8 hours per day).
JOB GOAL: To maintain the buildings and grounds in a clean, safe, and secure condition so educational use may always be made of them.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Follows Personnel Policies and Safety Regulations.2. Participate in all training programs.3. Cooperates in all departmental safety requirements including but not limited to electrical lockout/tag-out procedures and personal protective equipment.4. Promote quality, accuracy, efficiency, safety, good housekeeping, care of equipment, and teamwork.5. Respond to employees, visitors, and general public in a personable manner to encourage goodwill feeling towards the Milton Area School District.6. Must be capable of working with minimal direct supervision.7. Capable to work in confined spaces and various climate conditions.8. Must have the ability to climb and perform work from ladders, scaffolding, catwalks, and/or any elevated or beneath common grade levels.9. Keeps all work areas organized, cleans equipment and tools; returns all items to proper storage areas.10. Monitors all tools and equipment for safe and proper operating condition.11. Maintain a professional appearance.12. Job requires the proper clean-up of vomit, blood, feces, urine and all bodily fluids.13. Specific responsibilities include: a. Clean and polish lighting and wall fixtures, wood and/or other surfaces and trim b. Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, libraries, cafeterias, auditoriums, gymnasiums, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms and to include all work areas assigned. c. Sweep, scrub, wax and polish floor. d. Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture and draperies. e. Dust furniture and equipment. f. Polish metalwork. g. Wash walls, ceiling, woodwork, windows, door panels and sills. h. Empty waste containers transport trash and waste to disposal area.
i. Replenish restroom supplies. j. Replace light bulbs. k. Grounds keeping; cut grass, perform minor arborist duties and litter pickup. l. Shovel snow. m. Deliver packages and materials. n. Transport equipment or tools throughout the building. o. Set up equipment, tables and chairs where needed. p. Maintain building security at all times. q. Maintain current knowledge in those areas related to the performance of job duties, including matters dealing with safety regulations and procedures.15. Conduct general maintenance repairs and installations maintaining furniture and building structures.16. Perform any other duties assigned by Maintenance/Custodial Supervisor, Head Custodian or
Business Administrator.

The job requires considerable physical stamina because of the demanding role in the performance of the duties. The employee must have the ability to speak clearly and distinctly, to operate a variety of manual and power equipment including lawn mowers, and various hand tools. The employee must have the ability to use computer technology, to write reports and handle some correspondence, and to appropriately handle confidential information. The employee must interact with staff and public in a courteous and professional manner.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with the public and other staff.
