Extremely busy ophthalmology practice is seeking a full-time Medical Administrative Assistant. This position is a unique opportunity to fully support our surgical and retinal injection team “behind the scenes”. Ideal candidate MUST be highly organized with superior attention to detail.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Obtain authorizations for insurances and performs administrative duties as assigned.
Examples of Duties: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)
- Displays courtesy and consideration to patients, guests, physicians and staff.
- Contact insurance carriers to verify patient’s insurance eligibility, benefits, and requirements.
- Request, track and obtain insurance pre-authorizations for upcoming surgeries and injections procedures.
- Request, follow up and secure prior-authorizations prior to services being performed.
- Ensures current authorizations are still valid and update as needed.
- Contact patients to discuss authorization status.
- Update insurances annually for injection patients.
- Verifies insurance coverage, obtains referral, precertification and prior authorizations when needed.
- Screen patient charts for proper surgical documents, ensure all consent forms have been signed, and fees collected.
- Track surgical lens data in system.
- Prepare patient charts for surgery.
- Answers phones in a professional and courteous manner to screen calls, takes messages and provides information to callers. Work in phone que for surgery team. Check voicemail messages and relay necessary messages to team.
- Enters surgical charges into computer system the system per established guidelines.
- Maintains surgery stock and order surgery supplies and paperwork, drop bags including cataract drugs, all surgery brochures, instructions, folders, etc.
- Assist manager with credentialing of insurances companies/payers.
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory and accredited institutions.
- Monitor physician credentials and licenses, update and renew as needed.
- Complete credentialing/re-credentialing applications for insurance payers, Medicare, and Medicaid.
- Maintain accurate provider profiles on CAQH, PECOS, NPPES, and CMS databases.
- Run errands for Admin (i.e. gift card purchases, flower ordering, snacks, etc.)
- Other administrative duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: High School Graduate or GED.
Experience:
- Minimum of one year work experience in a medical office setting with medical strong knowledge of insurances.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel & Outlook)
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: None.
Alternative to minimum qualifications:
Graduation from a Medical Assisting or other appropriate health care related program may be substituted for one year of experience.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
