What are the responsibilities and job description for the Artist Services Manager position at Milwaukee Film?
We believe films and filmgoing are powerful vehicles for social change and personal introspection and are dedicated to enriching, entertaining, educating, and engaging others through film. Milwaukee Film has a vision to make our organization the most dynamic, well-rounded film culture institution around.
As part of this mission, Milwaukee Film presents a number of Artist Services programs, which range from professional development work for careers in filmmaking to a grant program and fiscal sponsorship. We also serve as a go-to resource for filmmakers, helping them connect to resources and tools. We invest deeply in taking care of local filmmakers as well as ones visiting our city, endeavoring to connect local to national as much as possible.
If you’d like to be part of a nonprofit organization that is committed to doing our part to support the local independent filmmaking ecosystem, we’d like to harness your expertise in managing and delivering programs such as those described above. We are currently searching for someone to fill our Artist Services Manager position. Starting salary is expected to be between $47,000-$62,000, depending on experience. You must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19, including booster, by the time you join our team.
This full-time Artist Services Manager position reports to our Artistic Director. You’ll lead the execution of our current programs (including our cohort-based accelerator, public events, networking, and financial support programs), serve as a local filmmaker’s first resource within our organization, and build relationships locally, regionally, and nationally to support that work. You’ll also help the Artistic Director strategize new and future programs, ultimately shaping the positive experiences of artists across the organization’s areas of work. While this work is focused on serving local makers, developing and maintaining a robust network of industry contacts is a vital element of the role.
We’re looking for a dynamic arts administrator with at least 2 years’ experience in a related role. An understanding of the independent film industry, film festivals, art house cinemas, hospitality and/or filmmaking is a plus. We hope that you will be able to demonstrate through your past experience: exceptional communication (written and verbal, including public speaking competence) with a range of stakeholders, a capacity to problem solve under pressure, and an ability to successfully manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Among other systems, we use Asana for project management and Slack for communications. Of course, a passion for film to spark curiosity and empathy is a must. If you believe you match these criteria, please consider submitting your resume and cover letter.
In addition to the full range of benefits you’d expect (e.g., health, dental, paid time off), you’ll receive a Milwaukee Film Membership, access to the festivals, and complimentary admission to screenings at the Oriental Theatre (including free popcorn!). Best of all, you’ll become part of an organization dedicated to investing in its people for the betterment of our greater community. Our beautiful offices are located in the Brewery District of downtown Milwaukee. While Milwaukee Film offers some opportunities for remote work, due to the nature of this role the Artist Services Manager will be required to work in Milwaukee throughout the year. Relocation reimbursement to be negotiated at the time of hire.
