Job Summary
The Category Manager is responsible for the timely recruitment of contract labor (i.e., Subcontractors), reactively (to support emergent work) and proactively (to improve capacity or cost). Subcontractor selection and negotiation will be based on expertise, experience, cost, responsiveness, location, capacity, and acceptance of Miner requirements. Drives continuous improvement via training and development of the Subcontractor network in their assigned trades; the Subcontractors’ compliance to contractual requirements; the management and delivery of related scorecards; and the management of capacity planning tools, web portal, and all related self-help tools. Acts as lead Subject Matter Expert for assigned trades, leveraging specific knowledge of parts, equipment, and labor requirements for related jobs. The right candidate will be data and process driven, acutely aware of Customers’ Service Level Agreements (SLA), collaborative in approach, and focused on continuous improvement. The candidate should be adept at identifying negative trends, developing recommendations to resolve, and then coaching the organization (collectively and individually) to higher levels of compliance and proficiency.
This position may sit in any of our West Region hubs: Phoenix, Tucson, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles or Denver.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Maintain a high level of trade-specific knowledge including but not limited to:
o Knowledge of Subcontractor landscape for assigned trade(s)
o Understanding of top break / fix issues for assigned trade(s)
o Top parts required to resolve top break / fix issues
o Service quoting process
- Provide technical guidance on assigned trade(s) to service teams.
- Work with sales and service teams to discuss hurdles and / or opportunities to increase Revenue / Gross Profit.
- Collaborate with Workforce Management to develop and maintain trade-specific curriculum and classroom training.
- Establish, develop, and maintain ongoing working relationships with Subcontractors to ensure that quality and service are maintained.
- Deliver newcomer and recurring training to the Subcontractors across a spectrum of needs, including: system, process, and performance.
- Ensure adherence to appropriate Subcontractor policies and procedures.
- Serve as liaison between Miner and Subcontractors to rectify issues, department requests for intervention in related interactions, and escalated discussions.
- Maintains Subcontractors’ profiles, assigned status, territory, trade, skill level, etc.
- Manage Subcontractor communications.
- Drive regular business reviews for the largest Subcontractors and select others (e.g., under-performing or growth opportunities).
- Drive the Preferred Subcontractor Program for assigned trades.
- Analyze and interpret Subcontractor volume data to determine capacity requirements or gaps and take action to resolve.
- Ensure Subcontractor invoices and payments reflect work performed per contracts or SLA's.
- Generate cost savings through more effective use of the Subcontractor network.
- Identify and communicate areas for continuous improvement; recommend and initiate process improvements.
- Drive analytics on related operational KPI’s.

Requirements
- High School or GED diploma required; Bachelors’ Degree or very strong equivalent experience preferred.
- Experience in a facility maintenance trade core to Miner business preferred. 7 years, preferred.
- Experience with strategic alliance development, contract negotiation, competitive cost, price analysis required.
- Supervisory experience. 2 years, preferred.
- Experience working with Salesforce ServiceMax or like CRM application preferred.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to lead, motivate and influence others in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and data analysis abilities.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, a high degree of reliability, commitment, tenacity, teamwork and creative energy; excellent time management skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced, technology driven, service environment.
- Experience working in a geographically distributed, multi-site organization highly desirable.
- Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational, writing and presentation skills.
- Must maintain the highest standards of accuracy.
- The selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check and drug screen.
