Job Posting for Senior Mineral Resource Geologist at Mining Plus

We are seeking a Senior Mineral Resource Geologist to join our Vancouver Define team. This newly created position will provide geological expertise as part of the wider corporate advisory services provided by the Define team.

Why Mining Plus?

Mining Plus is a leading mining consultancy with 10 offices across Australia, North America, South America, and the United Kingdom. Our Define – Plan – Operate structure covers the full mining life cycle of technical mining services in Geology, Geotechnical and Mining Engineering. In Define we provide corporate advisory in due diligence & audits. Our Plan team executes studies, Resource development & mine planning. The Operate team provide on-site and remote operational support.

Why This Role?

We provide a range of corporate advisory services in the Define team. We are typically providing advice on the decision to invest or reviewing existing investments in the mining industry. These can range from entire mines, providing mine finance, valuing mine royalties & streams, or auditing existing operations for potential improvements. We operate at the intersection of mining opportunities and the financiers to invest in them.

Our results are well communicated with quantitative and qualitative reviews of the facts and provisions of opinions & advice. We succeed when our clients’ decisions are well informed by our expertise & have learned from us. We ensure our independent opinion is heard unfiltered but delivered professionally, as that is what’s required to overcome the cognitive biases that are ever present from clients with exciting opportunities. While it’s great to see our client be successful, some of our most satisfying success is where our advice preserves our client’s capital through sound decision making. The name of the game is due diligence, after all.

Our mining clients range from explorers to developers to operators, juniors to majors and those on the journey between each. On the finance side we work with mining royalty & streaming companies, banks, capital firms, wealthy individuals & families. We leverage our global team’s diverse skills and experience across time zones to make our projects work for us and our clients. Often our clients come to us organically through repeat work, though we do maintain business development efforts to ensure we have a solid workbook.

You will be able to act autonomously and work flexibly in the role. The main thing is that we collaborate effectively as a team and with the client. We maintain a balance of working from the office, at home and elsewhere.

We have a passion for our great industry, the inspiring people within it and the amazing projects we get to work on. No two projects are ever the same in our unique corporate advisory position, and that’s what makes this an exciting team to work in.

The skills and experience of the Senior Mineral Resource Geologist we are seeking include:

  • Experience in Mineral Resource development – planning, execution and interpretation of exploration programs, including drilling, sampling and lab work management, the application and assessment of QAQC best practices, use of modern geology software such as Leapfrog, Datamine and others and operational experience. and most importantly knowledge of the common limitations and pitfalls in modern Mineral Resource estimation methods and their influence on the mining, ore processing and the economics of active or potential operations.
  • North & South American deposit experience – as we are America’s focussed, experience in typical mineral deposits found on these continents would be useful, and could include for example porphyry-type Au, Cu and Mo deposits, orogenic gold deposits and epithermal deposits and many others.
  • Base & precious metals experience – The majority of our clients are interested in gold, silver, copper, and base metal poly-metallic mines, and so relevant experience would be an advantage.
  • Diligent project management – the ability to plan and manage complex projects and teams, often working with incomplete information. Providing a comprehensive record of project effort, meeting minutes and decisions, data provisions in our networks and software. Delivering on all required outcomes for our clients.
  • Precise & impactful communication – the ability to comprehensively explain with as few words and pictures as possible, distinguish between fact, opinion and advice, and focus on what’s important.
  • Adaptive communication - Being able to communicate to the right level for the audience. We work with people from all parts of the mining and finance industry with vastly difference experience and understanding of technical and general mining concepts.
  • Business development – the ability to leverage your existing network and create new contacts in the industry to bring new and repeat clients to work with
  • Professional development - Self-awareness of skills & experience gaps. With this ability we are willing to work with you to gain the skills and experience listed above that you may not yet have, or wish to develop further

Your specific duties as Senior Mineral Resource Geologist in the Define team will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Participate in due diligence review projects to advise clients in their investment decisions.
  • Review existing client geology data such as exploration programs, laboratory work, QA/QC programs, Mineral Resource reports & files, and all supporting data.
  • Operate with proficiency in geology and mine planning software packages to view and manipulate Resources and mine designs.
  • Use public information sources & paid databases to create relevant geological research & context for clients. For example, assessment of “nearology” (proximity to geological trends or nearby mines), and assessment of claim boundaries.
  • Exercise sound judgement in the assessment of potential upside and downside scenarios based on a range of possible geological outcomes.
  • Report & present on opportunities, threats and corresponding recommendations to improve geological and mining issues.
  • Act as Competent Person / Qualified Person where required, and be fully aware of the limitations applied through the various Mineral Resource and Reserve Reporting Codes. In this respect you should be registered with a relevant professional organisation that is recognized by the various reporting codes.
