Responsibilities:
The Design Engineering Division seeks a talented and dedicated individual to serve as our Fire Protection and Mechanical Discipline Department Manager. The Manager will be responsible for direct management of fire protection and mechanical discipline personnel, ensuring the quality and completeness of design products, ensuring project priorities are supported as planned and scheduled, and ensuring staff compliance to industry codes and standards and company procedures. The Manager will review fire protection and mechanical discipline internally generated design products for accuracy, compliance, consistency, and quality prior to release as well as review similar products received from other design subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide daily scheduling and oversight, technical and administrative direction, and professional guidance to ten (10) or more individuals who provide fire protection and mechanical discipline support to Design Engineering projects in both remote and office work locations.
  • Ensure the timeliness, completeness, accuracy and quality of fire protection and mechanical discipline design products and when required, perform duties as a reviewer.
  • Prepare statements of work/task orders and provide oversight for subcontracted design services and staff augmentation.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for management.
  • Engage with Design Engineering managers to address issues/requests and coordinate with Project Engineers on project priorities and assigning available resources to projects.
  • Interface with team members, analyze processes and procedures to increase efficiency, monitor group performance against metrics and goals, perform employee performance evaluations, and work with employees to develop goals.
  • Ensure activities are executed consistent with company processes and procedures, and industry codes and standards.
  • Interface with internal and external organizations, customers, and vendors to effectively execute projects.
  • Determine and coordinate required technical training.
  • Participate in audits and assessments from DOE, NNSA and other external or internal organizations.
  • Exercise considerable discretion and judgment in performing work, conducting evaluations of operations and process effectiveness, and initiating changes required to implement process improvements.
  • Create an environment where employees feel safe to raise issues, are empowered to address issues, and are supported to resolve issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees
    • Or, Calculus-based STEM bachelor’s degree in engineering;
    • Or Professional Engineer license;
  • Plus a minimum of 14 years of related and progressively responsible experience in design engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience to apply the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies required to successfully perform the job.
  • Minimum of 5 years supervising engineering staff preferred.
  • Professional Engineer license or be able to obtain a license within six months of hire.
  • Working knowledge of fire protection and mechanical discipline industry codes and standards.
  • Working knowledge of applicable DOE orders and standards preferred.
  • The primary work location will be at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • Work schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change).
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Department of Energy Q Clearance
(position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

Annual salary range for this position is: $144,560.00 - $231,296.00.

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
