Overview

Mission Veterinary Partners (MVP) has an opportunities for Veterinary Technician Students to gain clinical experiences and complete school requirements at our veterinary medical facilities! 

 

Job Summary: Reporting to the Credentialed Veterinary Technician or Medical Director, the Veterinary Technician Extern will provide basic patient care as they refine their skills and industry knowledge. Working under the direct supervision of the hospital staff, the Veterinary Technician Extern will have access to hospital equipment as required by their program and exposure to the different departments within a veterinary practice. The Extern will assist with and observe routine treatment procedures and assist in maintenance of a safe, clean environment. Ensure adherence to Hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

  

Responsibilities

 How you’ll make an impact:

  • Maintain and uphold the Core Values and Mission Statement of MVP.
  • Provide quality patient care in tandem with other medical professionals.
  • Refine a variety of technical skills ranging from but not limited to: laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, surgery and dentistry.
  • Assist with recording all pertinent medical, client and case related information in patient files.
  • Assist with review of medical records, estimates or discharge instructions with clients.
  • Externs should only be handling non-aggressive patients with a known vaccine status.
  • Externs must submit completed skill sheets and work (essays, videos, logbooks, entries) to his or her faculty evaluator at your AVMA accredited school for review for the final records.Additional Functions:
  • Participate in any special cleaning duties and equipment maintenance as directed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to adapt in critical circumstances.

  • Externs are expected to demonstrate the skills required by veterinary technicians under the supervision of the site supervisor.
  • Externs must submit skills on a weekly basis and can submit up to three skills per week.
  • Externs must earn a passing grade from their site supervisor on their skill sheet before submitting the skill to for review. If a student continues to fail the skill(s), mark the skill sheet with a failing grade and submit it to AVMA accredited school for review.
  • Externs can practice each skill until they are able to perform the skill correctly.
