Transportation Supervisor
Overview:
Mississippi Export Railroad is currently recruiting a highly qualified Transportation Supervisor who will be responsible for assisting in leading the Transportation Department’s daily operations in Mississippi and Alabama. This position’s daily responsibilities include planning train movements, leading daily job briefings with train crews, supporting customers, and working collaboratively across departments at the railroad. Proactive planning, clear communication, and having a customer-oriented mindset are crucial to successful operations of the business. This supervisor must possess a sense of urgency to act promptly and with intension to make sure operations happen efficiently and effectively while collaborating with customers and other employees. This supervisor serves as a key leader in advancing the safety culture and will assist in training to ensure operations are conducted in compliance with FRA regulation and company policy. This individual will develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the railroad’s operations to support the success of the customers and the business.
To be successful, this member will possess a proactive mindset, strive to continually learn, and leverage strong coaching skills. It is expected that you will spend a significant amount of time in the field working with crews to ensure compliance and advance the safety culture through actively partnering with employees to achieve safety excellence.
Key competencies:

  • Knowledgeable of FRA regulations (including Hazmat, Air Brake, Train Handling, conductor and engineer training and certification) and GCOR
  • Train employees on safe and productive work procedures. Improve safety compliance and results through regular safety observations; implement and provide feedback (positive and constructive) to employees and take action on non-compliant behavior
  • Responsible for implementing assigned elements of Safety Action Plan through identifying risks and developing mitigation to ensure a safe and secure environment
  • Daily communication and coordination with customers to ensure highest levels of service
  • Communicate company goals and policies with employees to create clear understanding of direction and expectations
  • Foster a culture of teamwork to ensure emergent issues are appropriately addressed
  • Manage crew productivity and recommend improvements of with crew utilization
  • Constant improvement regarding cost control and asset utilization
  • Complete daily reports including payroll, overtime, and ensure timely TMS reporting
  • Identify continuing education beneficial to job responsibilities
  • Assist in conducting investigations, root cause analysis, audits, and responses
  • Maintain professional and productive relationship with federal authorities
  • Assist with day-to-day operational tasks, as needed
  • Consistently maintains a professional attitude
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills
  • Communicates clearly and articulately in verbal and written interactions
  • Strong computer skills

Working conditions:

  • Support 24/7 operations, including nights, weekends, and holiday
  • Work outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions
  • Travel for company business at times without advance notice
  • Respond to unexpected or emergency situations

Education/Other Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as Conductor or Engineer with current certification
  • High School Graduate
  • College degree in logistics, education, or related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must live within 60 miles of MSE
  • Pre-employment drug, alcohol, physical, vision, and hearing test required; subject to random testing
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Background check required
