MANAGING DIRECTOR, Center for International Studies-MIT Policy Lab, to enhance the impact of MIT research on public policy by developing partnerships between MIT faculty and the public policy community. Will work with faculty to help them distill the policy implications of their research into something a policymaker can ingest, identify relevant contacts in the policy community, and arrange for meetings; and be involved in fundraising. Responsibilities include creating strategies (“influence plans”) for faculty projects that provide a roadmap for influencing federal and international policy based on recommendations resulting from faculty research; drafting and editing science policy documents on behalf of faculty; identifying audiences for faculty to engage with, developing relationships with these audiences, and involving faculty as appropriate; preparing faculty for and participating in meetings with policymakers; organizing public events for the MIT community; training faculty to enhance communication skills to policy audiences; analyzing and monitoring policy and legislative proposals from the executive branch and Congress; connecting non-Policy Lab project faculty to policymakers on an ad hoc basis; developing resources for faculty that explain public policy; developing new opportunities/programs for faculty interested in public policy outreach to enhance their skills and connect them with other faculty; advertising and promoting programs through outreach at MIT; speaking about the Policy Lab to external audiences; developing and stewarding relationships with potential donors; writing Policy Lab’s annual report; managing lab expenses and accounts; and performing other duties as necessary.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: doctoral degree in natural sciences or engineering field, work experience in the policy world, and understanding of the policy-making process. Candidates with a terminal M.A. degree will be considered under exceptional circumstances. Job #20795
