Summary The role will be part of the Project Optimization Team focusing on the development and execution of a process that allows for quick optimization of wood framed multi-dwelling structures. This role will deliver optimized engineering design proposals to the MiTek Design and Project Development teams highlighting the value that offsite componentization combined with innovative products and solutions will have at advancing better building and increasing productivity downstream. This role will support the Design and Project Development teams at interpreting and presenting key project performance criteria and technical concepts to internal and external clients. This roll will also provide expertise and direction in the establishment of MiTek standard recommendations of methods of design and detailing that will provide value to the project team. Job Responsibilities & Requirements Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (Other duties may be assigned.) Project Optimization and Sales Support (80%): Maintain a clear understanding of applicable building codes and opportunities for automated design tools that creates more efficient structures. Execute all necessary design optimization proposals on time and in accordance with client expectations. These may include structural drawings, calculations, cost estimates, etc. Collaborate with other Design Solutions, Project Solutions and Customer Experience teams to ensure seamless transfer of proposals to delivery. Assist in the development of case studies highlighting the value Design-Make-Build can have if applied correctly Mentor and train future project optimization engineers as the team grows Teach others within MiTek of the processes and optimization tools being implemented so that they can evaluate if the tools will have benefit to other parts of the organization. Process Development (20%): Assist in the creation internal processes that uses advanced design tools to expedite project optimization of the targeted midrise, wood, multi-dwelling market. Produce and maintain clear process and protocol documents to assist in future development of new optimization engineers Validate new design tools by utilizing prototypes as part of the optimization process. Provide overview and maintenance recommendations for advancing our tools once early prototypes are created Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering Excellent understanding of statics, dynamics, structural load path and wood design (10) or more years of experience in structural engineering focused on light framed multi-dwelling buildings. Involvement with industry organizations preferred (SEA, AIA, BIA, MFE etc) Ability to read, analyze, and interpret applicable US and International building codes, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical publications, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as calculus, algebraic formulas, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office and proficient skills in Word and Excel, as well as various structural engineering software platforms to analyze building structures. Experience with Revit, Adapt PT/RC, RAM Concept, Woodworks or similar preferred. Experience with the development, revision or application of design spreadsheets preferred. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Licensed as a Professional Engineer is preferred If the employee is subject to license requirements or professional development hours as stipulated by a state agency now or in the future, compliance is required. Other Qualifications Up to 15% of the total work time spent traveling to potential and existing customers, tradeshows, as well as project sites as necessary.
