BIM | VDC Manager
Job Description
Michael Kinder and Sons, Inc. (MKS), a fourth-generation family-owned Design Build Construction Firm is seeking an experienced BIM | VDC Manager with a minimum of 3 years of industrial experience with architectural design, engineering and/or MEP systems. This highly motivated team member will contribute to a growing organization by providing unparalleled customer service and maintaining accurate and dependable job management.
The Build Information Modeling Manager is responsible for developing and implementing a corporate-wide Project Controls program, which includes document control, field reporting, aspects of project cost control, and scheduling. This individual is also responsible for developing and implementing a corporate-wide Virtual Design Construction program consisting of efforts to implement various BIM and VDC technologies including 3D visualization and coordination, 4D scheduling, 5D estimating, and others.
This position is responsible for the following duties which include but may not be limited to:
DEVELOPMENT & IMPLEMENTATION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Advocates the use of virtual construction technologies.
- Responsible for technical support for BIM and virtual construction software.
- Develops and documents project management processes related to BIM and virtual construction.
- Supports marketing and business development efforts and participates in presentations.
- Assists project teams with developing project (i.e.: specific BIM guidelines and BIM project execution plans.)
- Implements training for employees on virtual construction concepts and related software.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Obtain building models and other electronic documents from design team; coordinate proper file protocols with the design team and subcontractors; perform site visits and collect data required to perform modeling tasks.
- Lead the creation, development and ongoing maintenance of BIM models (or conversion of 2D plans or PDF’s to 3D models) for projects; create conceptual models based on similar projects and historical cost information.
- Produce drawings/models consistent with instruction, guidelines, and BIM standards.
- Modify incoming BIM files for use in design/detailing process (clean-up, audit, reference and troubleshoot).
- Develop models for demonstration of site staging and logistics plans, construction phasing, project sequencing and scheduling.
- Assist preconstruction personnel with quantity extraction and ensure the preparation of clear, properly formatted materials takeoff schedules from the building model.
- Perform clash detection of various building design disciplines during preconstruction to assist the design team’s quality control efforts and to ensure the constructability of projects during the design; assist with ensuring a smooth transition from preconstruction to operations.
- Lead/facilitate project coordination meetings with subcontractors; perform clash detection between the design model and electronic shop drawings in order to resolve conflicts in above ceiling MEP work and/or the work of other trades, prior to installation.
- Develop and/or manage commissioning plan and process, including control checks and testing/balancing.
- Assist Preconstruction Team with Assemble Software setups and takeoffs.

QUALIFICATIONS | Listed below are the Minimum Requirements for This Position
- Minimum Education | Bachelor’s Degree (BS or BA) from a four-year college or university majoring in architectural design and/or Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum Work Experience | 3 years of BIM and/or VDC experience
