Job Description
Position Summary:
The Welder level 1 joins, fabricates and repairs metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques for welding aluminum or steel under the direction of the welding supervisor or a senior level 3 welder. They have limited experience and able to complete either MIG or TIG welding competently. They may also be in training to complete more complex welds or learning to weld other metals. The quality of the welds requires supervision and is inspected on a regular basis by the supervisor.
POSITION DUTIES AND Primary Responsibilities: Major responsibilities of the position
- Receives general instructions as to normal setting of welding machine and welding procedures from the Manager and/or Immediate Supervisor
- Performs MIG or TIG Welding on a wide variety of metals and their various thicknesses, requiring all position welding, and welding on work involving critical safety and load requirements
- Capable of performing non complicated welds on non-ferrous materials, stainless steel, steel, iron, heavy metals, or aluminum alloys.
- Requires supervisor involvement when reading and interpreting welding blueprints, drawing specifications, manuals, and processes and seeks guidance and clarification from the supervisor or a Level 3 welder
- Examines welds and ensure they meet standards and/or specifications
- Is able to plan, layout, and perform diversified work
- Maintains required productivity levels (efficiency & utilization)
- Produces required quality of work
- Completes preliminary inspections on equipment and structures
- Cleans and grinds welds
- Follows and maintains knowledge of all Safety and Health standards
- Performs various housekeeping duties
- Performs other work/tasks/duties assigned over the course of employment as deemed necessary to support the needs of the business which are not listed above. Work/tasks will be assigned through the employee’s manager/immediate supervisor or by senior leadership.

Education, Training and Experience:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
- 1 years of related work experience, preferred
- Post-Secondary education in a trade or technical school for welding
- Ability to pass welding test
- Ability to attain CWB certification based on related experience in the welding manufacturing industry as a welder
- Proficient English written and verbal communication skills and be able to read and understand technical drawings
Working Conditions:
- This position requires walking, sitting or standing for extended periods of time
- Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds from floor to waist, carry 50 pounds, and push and/or pull up to 20 pounds
- Must have the ability to climb ladders and/or stairs
- Bending, reaching, kneeling, stretching, and working overhead
- Handling, feeling, and gripping
- Repetitive work
- Fast paced environment
- Exposure to potential hazards, therefore, protective clothing and equipment required such as steel-toed safety boots and a welding helmet
