What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Nurse (RN) position at ModMD LA?
Overview
This role involves caring for a mother and daughter (daughter is age 13) who are suffering from a debilitating illness combined with long covid, in their home. Neither are currently hospitalized. The mother had a pre-existing condition which has dramatically worsened and is often on bed rest. The daughter is now suffering from POTS, has chronic headaches and pain, has had to drop out of school, and is undergoing extensive diagnostic treatment along with a variety of treatment programs in consultation with her doctors.
The mother is no longer in a position to be able to care for her daughter to the extent necessary. She needs help and support. The family also includes a 10 year old boy and the father who are all in good health and all live in the home together. However, the father is not used to managing a situation like this and cannot provide the support that is needed here. He's not a caregiver or project manager (but is a wonderful father nevertheless). But he's out of his depth here.
The family has access to the best medical care - the best long covid specialists in the country, etc. So no one is expecting the nurse to be the doctor here, but there is still a lot to track, manage and deal with, as they navigate this very difficult situation.
Schedule: 5 days per week, 8 or 9 hours per day. (Possibly layering in a second weekend nurse - TBD).
Location: New Albany, Ohio
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Drive patients to all doctors appointments
- Attend all doctors appointments and take notes, in order to help with follow-up care, labs, and directions, as well as to help evaluate and synthesize options and recommendations with family
- Track and schedule all necessary doctors appointments
- Pick up all prescriptions and manage all medication schedules to ensure timely adherence to directions. (Apparently mother and daughter are taking a large number of prescriptions each day, per doctors)
- Deal with the administrative side of submitting claims to the insurance company; providing insurance to doctors; completing new patient paperwork; onboarding with new doctors; scheduling labs; etc. There are a lot of labs currently and doctor appointments, and new doctors and new specialists, and new treatment programs... as everyone tries to figure out what to do to help this once perfectly healthy little girl and mother,
- Coordinate medical records to ensure that new doctors have any necessary medical records; to ensure that labs are timely delivered where they ought to be; and otherwise handling all administrative case management for the patients.
- Household has a housekeeper a "nanny" who basically functions to cook and run errands. So, the nursing role really will be focused on nursing care and the case management of this situation - not housekeeping or cooking or tending to the healthy persons in the family.
- Provide support to mother and daughter to whatever extent they need it. At this point, both are independent with the basic daily tasks (such as bathing; using the restroom; etc.). However, occasionally, the mother's back goes out and then she may need assistance with bathing.
