What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Supervisor position at Mom's Meals?
The Utility Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the plant refrigeration equipment and boilers, as well as coordinating and conducting maintenance on the plant's refrigeration system.
- Maintain working knowledge and understanding of plant refrigeration equipment
- Work with operators on all shifts to ensure each component of the refrigeration system is fit for use, safe, and capable of operating as required by plant operations and the Process Safety Management (PSM) program
- Know and understand all start up, shut down, operating procedures for safe and efficient operations of the plant refrigeration and boiler systems
- Monitor the water treatment system as needed to keep boilers and refrigeration system condenser scale-free
- Oversee all preventative maintenance to ensure optimum uptime operation with minimal adverse impact on production
- Ensure that the refrigeration system is operated in a safe manner and that all components comply with OSHA, PSM Elements, and other agency requirements
- Lend knowledge and expertise to troubleshoot any problems that may arise in the plant refrigeration system
- Provide accurate and neat logs on the plant boilers and refrigeration systems. Check compressor area for any problems and inform the proper channels of any issues that may arise
- Requisition parts and chemicals for the department through vendors and contractors
- Ensure the Maintenance team is compliant with regulatory state and federal laws and that PSM Operations/Elements are followed and documented (PHA, pre-safe startup, line break permits, ammonia inventory, odor investigation)
- Assist in training of new employees
- Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP's, maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report any potential discrepancies in food quality, food safety, or personnel safety to the proper channels
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with ammonia refrigeration systems
- Previous experience delegating tasks and following up on completion as needed
- Proven ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors or employees
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
- PSM management experience
- Boiler Operator License
- Ammonia certifications
- Regularly required to use hands to feel, grab, or operate objects, tools, and controls while reaching with hands and arms
- Frequently required to stand, communicate, and listen
- Occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel or crouch
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Visual perception to perform job including peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Able to perform repetitive movements
- Able to work in variable temperatures (cold/hot)
