Qualifications
• Hold a current, active RN license or privilege to practice that is not encumbered and meets the requirements of the Board of Nursing.
• Have a bachelor’s degree with a major in nursing and 2 years of direct care patient experience in nursing for part-time faculty.
• Have evidence of current experience in nursing practice and education sufficient to demonstrate professional competence; or for faculty with less than two years’ experience in education, the nursing program administrator will submit to the Board a mentoring and orientation plan as defined by Board guidelines and function under the guidance of a faculty member fully qualified in the specific teaching area and professional competence.
This position will require weekend- 12 hour shifts.
Job Responsibilities (Clinical Instruction)
• Direct, Manage, and Evaluate Student learning in the clinical setting.
• Assists the student in integration of theory and practice, specific to the course’s learning activities and level of the learner.
• Evaluates the student’s development of clinical reasoning skills.
• Remain available at all times the student is in the clinical setting.
• Directly observe and guide students’ learning activities with the clients.
• Evaluate students in clinical related to the Student Learning Outcomes.
• Provide timely and ongoing feedback to the faculty (or to Clinical Coordinator) regarding the clinical site’s effectiveness in supporting the student accomplishment of the course and program outcomes.
• Collaborate with the unit manager and staff so that the presence of students and their activities are supportive of the unit’s goals and needs.
• Demonstrate proper respect for students, faculty, and staff and conduct the class in a student-friendly manner.
• Orient students to the clinical area, and demonstrate proper procedures.
• Work with the Clinical Coordinator and the Nursing Program Director to ensure clinical facilities have course learning objectives and student schedules for each course.
Job Responsibilities (General)
â— Complete all onboarding and mentorship plan requirements as directed by WVJC. This includes but is not limited to: providing WVJC with a copy of all certifications, immunizations, an updated resume, and transcripts.
â— Remain familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog, and the Faculty Handbook, Clinical/Lab Instructor Handbook, and Preceptor Handbook and follow such policies and procedures.
â— Promote positive and productive relationships with service area hospitals, clinics, businesses, industries, and agencies.
â— Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work, in meeting classes, turning in and grading all clinical paperwork and assignments, and in keeping office hours (if applicable).
â— Promote student development through enrichment and mentoring experiences.
â— Assist the students to develop an understanding of values, attitudes, and ideals appropriate to the health care profession.
â— Maintain adequate professional development and in-service training as required by accreditation and licensing bodies
â— Periodically participate in meetings as needed
