ProColor Collision has an opportunity for a Painter (Refinish Technician)
The role as a Refinish Technician is to complete refinish repairs properly and efficiently to have the vehicle ready for delivery on the promised due out date. The Refinish Technician will collaborate effectively with the body department to achieve efficient vehicle flow. The Refinish Technician will be responsible for ensuring that all parts are sprayed to a consistently high quality following manufacturers process. Responsibilities will include the identification and discarding of defective products, performing all work in a safe manner, cleaning and maintaining painting, ventilation, compressed air, and personal protective equipment. The Refinish Technician will collaborate effectively with the body department to achieve efficient vehicle flow while ensuring quality standards are met to reduce and eliminate re-work.
Job Duties
- Check all parts for damage and correctness prior to beginning and notifying the Production Manager of any discrepancies.
- Execute all activities you are responsible for on the R/O - Ensure to notify the Production Manager of any additional damage that does not appear on the R/O.
- Fill out and sign the QC checklist before moving the vehicle to next the department.
- Use repair/refinish products as described by manufacturer (refer to supplier reps and other available resources) to restore vehicle paint to original condition.
- Maintain and use the equipment properly and in a way that promotes safety for yourself and others.
- Maintain a positive and cooperative attitude, with managers and fellow employees, to create a team-oriented environment.
- Inspect, clean and smooth surfaces of projects prior to refinishing to ensure all prep and repair work is complete before the application of primer and paint.
- Follow refinishing operations including cleaning, masking, prepping, application of paint materials, etc.
- Detailing of paint work such as unmasking, inspection, touch ups, buffing and minor reassembly.
- Decide how to best utilize the booth, to paint as many parts as possible in cycle possible.
- Ensure you are painting all critical components at the same time.
- Select appropriate paint or mix paints using paint mixing equipment according to a pre-determined formula.
- Tend to or operate equipment to clean, wash, strip, sand, remove corrosion, fill dents or otherwise prepare items for application of coatings.
- Tend to or operate automated spray equipment and spray booths as set out by the manufacturer.
- Clean and maintain painting, ventilation, compressed air and personal protective equipment.
- Mark, record and report defects.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment. (Work stalls, prep/paint booth, mixing room, etc.).
- Correct any defects prior to passing onto the next department.
- Other related tasks as required.
Requirements
- Refinish Technician License with good general knowledge of entire collision repair process
- At least 5-7 years as automotive painter, preferred
- Able to effectively and efficiently manage multi vehicle repair
- Clear understanding of repair orders and cost drivers; ability to achieve production targets and maximize gross profit
- Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
- Knowledge of First Aid and CPR preferred
- Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
- Effective verbal and listening communications skills
- Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule
Working Conditions
- Job requires ability to work with a variety of hand and power tools
- Ability to lift objects of up to 80 lbs is required
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment will be required (e.g. gloves, safety footwear, facemask, etc.)
- Regularly works in conditions that include heat and humidity, and exposure to dust
- Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint or throw an object
- Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination
- Noise level can be loud
- Must be able to quickly move arms and legs
- Excellent stamina is required
