Job Summary


The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for environmental compliance for local, state and federal programs (air, waste, wastewater) primarily for Port Arthur facility and will support other assigned Houston area facilities on as needed basis.

Essential Functions / Key Accountabilities

  • Work closely onsite with plant personnel for environmentalcompliance primarily Port Arthur plant and will assist in environmental compliance for several plants in Houston area on as needed basis
  • Timely completion of daily/weekly/monthly inspections in various areas of the plants.
  • Assist in environmental compliance including emissions inventory reporting, Tier II, mass emissions cap & trade, MACT reports, CEMs reports, Title V deviation report, weekly RCRA audit, monthly WW DMR, annual waste summary,
  • Maintain existing environmental compliance programs and permits.
  • Assist in air, WW permit applications, or PBR applications.
  • Support plant operations by reviewing proposed process changes/management of change (MOC) for environmental impacts and obtain appropriate authorizations.
  • Support compliance goals and plant training efforts.
  • Effectively work with HSE Manager, Site Leaders, and Global Environmental Leader to ensure that all work practices are compliant with all regulatory (OSHA. EPA, TCEQ, etc.) and Monument's internal requirements.
  • Participate in customer audits as well as government agency inspections.
  • Complete regulatory compliance, training, and other actions on-time with appropriate closure status.
  • Assist in the Management of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes including profiling, scheduling, recordkeeping, and reporting.
  • Reviewing and tracking of invoices.
  • Maintain documentation necessary to demonstrate compliance with air emissions authorizations (permit by rule, new source review, etc.),
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the management team.
  • Should be able to respond to calls during off hours/weekend when required.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in environmental science or any engineering discipline.

Experience / Required Skills

  • 3-5 years of experience in environmental compliance either through a consulting firm or in a manufacturing facility.
  • Familiar with compliance requirements of regulatory codes (TCEQ, EPA, etc.) and environmental permits.
  • Attention to detail and willingness to learn and grow with the evolving organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with plant personnel at multiple manufacturing sites.
  • Proficient with Microsoft programs and any programming.
  • Desired skill: writing macro ability

Job Location

  • This position can sit at either Port Arthur, TX or Houston, TX location
  • Ability to work in a plant environment
  • Travel: 10-20% within Houston area

Physical Requirements

· Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long periods of time, up to 12 hours per day.

· Sitting. Working from a seated position for up to 12 hours per day.

· Climbing. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms one to two times per day.

· Balancing. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow or slippery surfaces.

· Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.

· Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

· Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.

· Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

· Pushing. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force, exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force consistently to move objects forward, downward or outward.

· Pulling. Using upper extremities to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force consistently to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

· Lifting. Raising objects up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds consistently from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.

· Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

· Possible subject to environmental conditions. Activities could occur inside and outside.

· Subject to extreme heat. Temperatures above 100 for periods of more than one hour.

· Subject to vibration. Exposure to movements of the extremities or whole body. Operate/drive utility vehicle.

· Subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.

· Must be able to wear appropriate PPE for tasks as required. FRC uniform, hard hat, safety toe work boots, safety glasses, gloves etc.
