SDG Space Sector West - Quality Manager

Be on the forefront of the growth of Moog’s Space Vehicle (SV) and Structures and Motion Control (S&MC) business within our Moog Space Sector business. This multi-faceted position is being defined to support the significant growth of production in our Arvada, CO and Mountainview, CA locations. This role will lead and grow our Quality team, as well as implement a multi-site transition to an AS9100 Quality Management System (QMS) certificate via a Stage-1 audit, gap analyses, and triennial re-certification audit process.

Quality Manager

Business Unit and Location(s):

  • Space Vehicles and Structures and Motion Control business groups operating at the Arvada, CO and Mountain View, CA sites.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Leadership (management, strategic planning and deployment, training and development)
    • Member of the site leadership team responsible for achieving organizational goals by participating in enterprise level planning and deployment
    • Responsible for developing the skills and capabilities of the quality organization to align with Moog’s objectives and superior cost and schedule of execution performance placing Moog at the forefront of competitive processes and streamlined operations.
    • Responsible for aligning quality function resources to achieve organizational goals and objectives
    • Responsible for supervision of direct reports across the Arvada, CO and Mountain View, CA sites

  • Quality Management (including tools, customer focus, supply chain management)
    • Responsible for leading improvements for a business management system that meets customer and regulatory requirements including but not limited to AS9100/ISO9000, AS9102, AS9103, AS9134, AS9145, Missile Defense Agency’s “Mission Assurance Provisions” (MAP) and “Parts, Materials and Processes” (PMAP) but which places Moog in the best of class in terms of on time delivery, high quality and lowest cost
    • Responsible for developing organizational capabilities to improve quality and customer satisfaction while achieving optimal total cost of quality. This includes skills and tools such as Quality Function Deployment, Design Risk Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Measurement System Analysis, Statistical Process Control, Process Capability Studies, Problem solving, error proofing, metrology, calibration, Advanced Statistical Analysis tools,
    • Leads continuous improvement in error prevention processes, and process variation reduction.
    • Responsible for interfacing directly with customer and suppliers to ensure partnerships are established and developed for mutual benefit and long term sustainable customer and supplier enthusiasm
    • Responsible for internal and external audit coordination in support of our Quality Audit programs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, math, science, or other technical fields. An Advanced (graduate) technical or business (MBA) degree is a plus
  • 5 years’ experience as QA manager in a leadership role, preferred
  • 7 years of progressive experience in the quality field spanning all primary elements of the QA discipline
  • Demonstrated experience with quality management tools and approaches listed above
  • Knowledge of AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 required. Certified auditor is preferred
  • Strong facilitative leadership and communication skills
  • Demonstrated business acumen, and experience dealing with suppliers and/or customers
  • This position requires access to United States Export Controlled information.

Nice to Have::

  • Experience outside of QA functions in one or more engineering or production roles
  • 6 Sigma and/or Lean Certification preferred
  • Formal Quality Manager Certification preferred (ASQ or other)
