The Investment Banking & Global Capital Markets Technology group is a global team operating out of five primary locations (New York, Montreal, London, Mumbai and Bangalore) supporting over 2,500 users in Investment Banking, Global Capital Markets, Finance, Credit and Operations. Our technology platforms cover a wide spectrum of business functions including client management, deal pipeline tracking (origination and execution platforms), revenue management, employee performance and analytics. Our Investment Banking and Capital Markets franchise is recognized as best in class and our technology team is committed to matching that reputation in terms of innovation, execution capabilities and reliability.

We are looking for a talented and driven Data Scientist / Engineer to join a newly formed Data & Analytics team. This team is responsible for working with business stakeholders to build new tools and techniques for performing competitive analyses, identifying market trends, and telling compelling stories with data. We are looking for highly motivated individuals who can design, plan, and execute on projects to meet specific client needs. You will apply strategic, analytical and data science skills to broad range of challenges faced by our business users in Investment Banking & Global Capital Markets. This position offers the opportunity to work as part of a global delivery team with visibility to senior technology management and business stakeholders at all levels. The successful candidate will be a team player and is likely to have experience in data analysis and analytics development, a strong technical background and excellent communication skills.

SKILLS REQUIRED
- Degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering or other quantitative field
- 10 years of industry experience as a data scientist or in a role involving quantitative data analysis to solve problems
- Knowledge of modern data mining, quantitative research, and data science techniques
- Ability to design and execute data analysis using SQL, Python and other relevant tools
- Experience wrangling and transforming raw data to ensure its accuracy and completeness
- Experience developing and applying statistical models and algorithms to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies
- Ability to work as a self-directed contributor with a proven track record of being detail orientated, innovative, creative, and strategic
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with business stakeholders and convey complex information in an understandable, compelling, and persuasive manner
- Ability to define analytical agenda for projects, demonstrates ability to frame ambiguous business questions into analytical plans (e.g., assessing data needs, sourcing and preparing data, evaluating quality, etc.), and execute with precision
- Self-motivated, with a high level of initiative
- Comfort working with ambiguity, managing and resolving complex issues
- Highly detail-oriented with a strong ability to manage and execute simultaneous projects and tasks

SKILLS DESIRED
- Experience at an investment bank or other leading financial services firm
- Understanding of fundamental analysis and financial modeling, including practical experience of using Excel for building and maintaining financial models
- Prior experience in a front office role (such as M&A, ECM, DCM, or Equity Research) is a plus

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $140,000 and $200,000 per year at the commencement of employment.  However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
