Housing Specialist
Nature of Work: The Housing Specialist is responsible for the completion of administrative work directly related to the management of affordable housing programs. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of tasks to support the day-to-day business of assigned properties. The incumbent works to ensure maximum occupancy of units and to sustain successful residency of MHA Residents. Duties include providing customer service to residents, conducting housing/grounds inspections, property management, leasing, and administrative support to the Public Housing Director and Housing Choice Voucher Director. All activities must support The Morristown Housing Authority’s mission, strategic goals, and objectives.
Illustrative Examples of Work:
- Assists with maintaining program related components and activities to ensure compliance with established program budgets.
- Assists in coordinating property management maintenance services, scheduling, recertifications and resident communication
- Administer state and federally funded housing programs and services
- Support housing team in the completion of assigned duties in meeting, state, and federal reporting requirements
- Assist in the maintenance of wait list and leasing for all programs
- Determine member eligibility based on housing program criteria, requirements, regulations, and rules
- Maintains files of all pertinent program and participant information in an organized and accessible manner and ensures the confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in business, social services or related field preferred but not required. Experience may be substituted for degree.
- At least three years’ experience working in property management and/or an affordable housing provider.
- Moderate to excellent computer ability.
- Knowledge of the general operations and procedures of a Public Housing Agency (PHA) and of local, state, and federal regulations governing subsidized housing programs.
- Knowledge of the laws, regulations, rules, guidelines, policies, and procedures applicable to the administration of affordable housing programs such as LIHTC, PBV, HCV and Public Housing programs.
- Establish, maintain, and promote effective working relationships with departmental employees, co-workers, vendors, consultants, contractors, and landlords/tenants; display ability to effectively communicate with people from a broad range of socio-economic backgrounds.

Necessary Special Requirements
-Must possess a valid Tennessee Driver's license and be insurable at standard vehicle liability rates.
