POSITION SUMMARY:
Steward Health Care is seeking a Laboratory Manager to oversee administrative and technical operations of Laboratory, Blood Bank and Pathology. Supervision of Laboratory Supervisors in Core Lab and Blood Bank, Lead Technical Staff, Medical Technologists, Medial Laboratory Technicians and other staff as assigned in performance of their duties. Works in Conjunction with Senior Leader to communicate, report, and improve operations of the Laboratory.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan, organize, direct, control and integrate delivery of Laboratory, Blood Bank and Pathology services
- Plans, delegates and organizes work activities
- Responsible for maintaining appropriate levels of staffing to deliver service
- Responsible for ensuring quality of all technical and clerical work
- Responsible for ensuring a high level of work performance
- Works cooperatively and collaboratively with other departments to deliver the most efficient services and resolve problems as observed.
Responsible for overall quality, including Quality control, Quality Improvement and maintaining regulatory compliance
- Assures compliance with regulatory agencies including but not limited to CAP, AABB, TJC, OSHA, DPH, CLIA.
- Meets department standard of inspection readiness at all times, including all appropriate documentation. This includes document reviews, completed checklist audits, and current Procedure manuals
- In collaboration with the Medical Director of the Laboratory and Pathology, develops Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance plans
- Monitor and report progress on QI Plan
- Analyze results, develop corrective action, implement changes and measure results
- Assures an environment that emphasizes high quality, error reduction and promotes a patient centered focus
- Monitors and reviews Quality control, instruments maintenance and proficiency testing
Financial
- Responsible for development and adherence to the operational and capital budgets for all areas
- Responsible for maintaining and submitting accurate payroll information in accordance with hospital policy
- Responsible to maintain adequate inventory of supplies and reagents and to ensure efficient use
- Prepare budget variance reports and submit in a timely manner
Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth and development of oneself and staff to provide the most competent personnel.
- Responsible for performing Annual Performance Evaluations in a timely and effective manner
- Responsible for resolving staff problems and /or issues
- Responsible for disciplining staff in accordance with the hospital policies
- Responsible for interviewing, hiring and terminating staff as needed.
- Maintains ongoing communication with all regularly scheduled staff
- Encourage professional development of personnel through in-service education opportunities and outside conferences and meetings
Maintains a high quality of service for all patients, clinicians and customers (internal and external) served by the department
- Responsible to resolve clinical complaints
- Collaborates and effectively communicates with physicians and other healthcare professionals
- Acts as technical resource for medical, nursing and other staff
- Actively participates in hospital committees and works collaboratively with other departments to deliver the most efficient services and resolve problems.
- Actively participates in enterprise laboratory committees such as methods and operations committees
- Participates in selection of vendors regarding capital equipment, reagents, supplies and outside services to ensure effective materials management within the lab organization
Hospital wide responsibility: Employee is available and prepared to work during scheduled hours to facilitate the smooth and efficient operations of the department and to meet approved staffing levels.
- Accepts responsibility for membership in the laboratory management team as evidenced by raising problems and issues and proposed solutions in a timely manner and through appropriate channels.
- Actively participates on all assigned committees as indicated by meeting minutes and timely completion of assigned projects
- Works cooperatively and collaboratively with others to deliver the most efficient services and resolve problems as observed and documented.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE/TECHNICAL/OTHER:
Required:
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Medial Laboratory Science
- 2-3 years of supervisory experience; management experience preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills
Experience in computer based applications
