Conveniently located in West Point, Mississippi, minutes from Mississippi State University and Columbus’ Golden Triangle Regional airport, Old Waverly, the Pate / Cupp layout has made a name for itself since 1988 as a perennial host of important USGA golf events including the 1999 U.S. Women’s Open, 2006 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur and the 2019 U.S. Women’s Amateur.  Mossy Oak Golf Club, a Hanse / Wagner design, opened to great fanfare in 2016 and serves as the home course for the Mississippi State men’s and women’s golf teams and is open for daily fee play as well as resort guest play.

Mossy Oak and Old Waverly combine to offer golfers a world-class golf destination.  Old Waverly and Mossy Oak are currently ranked No. 60 and No. 63 respectively in Golf Digest’s Top 100 Courses You Can Play.  Golfweek’s Best Resort Courses named Mossy Oak No. 27 in its 2020 rankings and Old Waverly No. 50.  Old Waverly also garnered a No. 47 ranking in Golfweek’s 2020 Best Residential Courses list.

Position Summary:

The position of Sales and Marketing Manager is an important role and is accountable for developing and implementing plans, programs, and activities designed to increase “stay and play” golf rounds played.

Primary Duties:

  • Ability to develop and execute a successful sales and marketing plan which significantly enhances major revenue generating opportunities.
  • Utilize telemarketing, direct mail, e-mail, social media, and referral programs and other methods to prospect potential golfers.
  • Promote Club activities using newsletters, direct mail, e-mail, social media, and web services.
  • Provide prospective clients with information, resort details and facility tours.
  • Maintain the Club’s database of guest information. Administer all changes, additions, and deletions.
  • Maintain and update Club’s web site and other internet and social media pages.
  • Create and edit club newsletter for email distribution monthly along with weekly club email blasts.
  • Assure the efficient and timely submission of all operational, financial, budgetary and related marketing and sales reports as required.
  • Attend local civic and business association meetings and events as required establishing partnerships where possible to benefit the Club.
  • Conduct periodic market research to provide information essential for revising current programs, which enhance the club’s competitiveness in the marketplace.
  • Identify potential target markets, evaluate and develop appropriate marketing strategies.
  • Identify and book outings and tournaments through prospecting and relationship building opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members to create new ideas and lead generation programs.
  • Must be more than an “order taker” – in this role you will be expected to actively hunt for new “stay and play” golfers.
  • Some night, weekends, and Holidays will be required to represent the Club.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration or equivalent education and experience.
  • Demonstrates outstanding interpersonal communication, presentation, and sales skills.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision; work flexible hours as required including nights/weekends.
  • Must understand the game of golf and be able to discuss golf fluently – an avid player is a plus.
  • Positive attitude, professional manner and appearance in all situations.
  • Dedication and commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Contact Management Software, along with basic website updating skills.
