Position Summary: The Inventory Manager is responsible for the monitoring, evaluation and determination of stocking levels of materials and equipment for assigned hubs and branches. The Materials Manager is responsible for maintaining inventory control and inventory systems.

Primary Duties:

  • Forecasts and communicates materials requirements to Procurement Buyers. Coordinates demand with Procurement to minimize inventory exposure.
  • Collaborates with sales, operations, and Procurement to develop replenishment strategies.
  • Establish delivery requirements; performance metrics; and drive suppliers and partners to execute on-time deliveries of the correct product. Collaborates with Procurement on the development, management, and review of supplier score cards.
  • Coordinates with engineering for BOM updates and ensure usage parameters meet demand.
  • Actively mediates and partners with quality and engineering teams to resolve supplier quality issues for assigned product groups. Escalate issues to Commodity Buyers when necessary.
  • Develop product transition planning process which phases in new products & phases out old products and manages end-of-life to minimize inventory obsolescence.
  • Manages dead stock identification and divestiture.
  • Monitor inventory aging reports; manage product returns; oversee Return Material Authorization (RMA) process, including confirmation of returnable materials to suppliers.
  • Manage cycle count process and reporting across all hubs and branches.
  • Develop and maintain customer and vendor relationships.
  • Apply creativity to solve problems.
  • Coordinate efforts with all appropriate departments and personnel to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain and develop professional/technical knowledge through relevant professional associations while serving as a technical resource for others in the organization.
  • Ensure that the highest level of customer service and ethical behavior are followed.
  • Address and resolve all customer requests with a positive approach.
  • Act as a technical resource for customers and others in the organization.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized work area.
  • Comply with all company rules, policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to strict Safety Guidelines.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum (2) years materials management, procurement, distribution warehouse, or equivalent experience, preferably in the industry. Four (4) additional years experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Excellent written & oral communication and strong relationship building skills required.
  • Detail oriented with solid organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Must be able to perform basic math functions, as well as understand and apply more complex calculations such as gross profit/gross margin and averages.
  • Solid computer skills including use of MS Office (Word, Excel & Outlook), with a willingness to learn new software programs.
  • ERP experience, preferably in materials management, procurement and/or accounting. Experience with Epicor Prophet 21 a plus.
  • Must be able to work with a wide variety of people and personalities.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Ability to sit, stand, walk and drive. Job requires frequent lifting up to 70 pounds, stooping, reaching above shoulder level, pushing and pulling. Work environment includes a wide variety of situations including: office, manufacturing, machine shops, agricultural operations, and any other specific business operations of current or potential customers. This position requires extensive travel by automobile and/or airplane. The physical demands and work environment reflected are representative of those encountered by employees when performing the essential job functions.
