This is a senior level product design and development position intended for those with significant and
relevant work experience in designing and manufacturing support of rugged communications devices. This
position will function primarily as a lead mechanical engineer or system architect on a high performance
mechanical team working with a cross functional organization to develop high tier public safety equipment.
Responsibilities include:
- Responsible for the Mechanical modeling, prototype creation and design of communication devices.
- Translate industrial design concepts to a functional mechanical architecture.
- Verify designs using CAE, manual methods, and functional testing.
- Design and perform experiments for verification of analysis.
- Perform mechanical verification tests per product specifications.
- May interface with the customer on product definition and requirements.
Specific Knowledge/Skills:
- Experience translating industrial design concepts to a functional mechanical architecture.
- Experience with plastic part design.
- Experience with aluminum die cast design.
- Experience with sheet metal design.
- Experience with Printed and Flexible circuit design.
- Should have a good understanding of mechanics of materials, vibration, and thermal management.
- Design for IP67 and Mil-Std is desired.
- Knowledge and experience with Finite Element packages desired. Abacus (structural simulation) and
- Icepack (Thermal simulation) preferred.
- Knowledge in design for Six Sigma.
- Experience with Failure Mode and Effect Analyses (FMEA) and Risk analysis.
- Hands on experience with test and measurement equipment.
Preferred Qualified Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years PTC Creo experience.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in electronics packaging design.
- Experience with plastic part design.
- Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or related
- Minimum of 10 years of experience with product development process and 3D Modeling tools.
