The Camp Wetu Director is responsible for operating the youth summer camp program at Mount Hope Farm. The Director will recruit and manage a team of camp counselors, create the camp curriculum, market the camp including preparing the MHF website information, Facebook promotions, camp flyers and registration packets.He/she handles all registrations and administration work, and will oversee all of the operations of the camp program.
This position requires attention to detail, strong management skills, experience with youth, and good communication skills. This is a seasonal position, functioning as a part-time position beginning in March and ramping up to a full-time position during the camp season.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Act as the face of the camp
- Be involved day to day in monitoring the program to ensure it is operating smoothly.
- Act as a leader and offer support/guidance to the counselors as their manager.
- Oversee, hire, and train camp counselors; assess work performance
- Address staff issues (ie late for work, not performing duties per job description)
- Conceptualize and implement camp curriculum
- Develop advertisements and marketing strategies to recruit campers;
- Manage the camp budget
- Review, improve and enforce all camp safety regulations and emergency procedures
- Act as a liaison and bring any highly concerning issues to the Executive Director of the farm as soon as required to ensure proper handling of concerns
- Abide by all camp policies and protocol
- Responsible for health and well-being of counselors, and campers
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior experience working with youth, program planning, recreational leadership, human development or Camp counseling
- Ability to recruit and effectively manage staff
- Demonstrated communication, interpersonal skills, good sense of humor, able to remain calm in trying circumstances
- Must have excellent leadership capabilities, be responsible, detail oriented and have the ability to effectively interact with staff, parents, and youth
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- First Aid and CPR certified and must have the ability to pass a background check
- Should be physically active, able to lift at least 25 pounds and have a driver’s license
