We are looking for a reliable, skilled maintenance worker to perform essential upkeep tasks throughout our facility. In this position, you will be responsible for a variety of activities such as repairs, maintenance, and cleaning to ensure that our facilities are both clean, functional, and welcoming to the public. Being reliable and self-motivated with a keen eye for detail is essential in this job. Must enjoy working in a public setting and should have a high regard for safety, communication, and a genuine interest in filling the needs of our patrons & fellow employees.

Tuesday 4 PM to 10 PM
Friday 4 PM to 8 PM


SALARY:
$19.37 per hour


BENEFITS:
Our part-time staff are eligible for paid holidays and a paid “birthday” holiday. 

 

PURPOSE:

Under the direct supervision of the Building Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician performs duties relating to the upkeep of the Library facilities, equipment, and property. This position will also perform routine preventative HVAC maintenance work. Other duties include repair of equipment; building and grounds maintenance; meeting room setup; emptying book bins; unloading donations and may assist with building security.

 

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

This position comprises of the following essential duties:

  • Facility cleaning, maintenance, and/or repair (approx. 35-45%)
  • Maintenance or repair of equipment or furnishings (approx. 20-30%)
  • Meeting Room Preparation (approx. 20%)

Other non-essential job duties may include facility opening and/or closing tasks.

 

JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Activates/deactivates building security system when needed
  2. Assists in the maintenance of plumbing fixtures (inspection, repair or replacement of pumps and valves
  3. Assists in the repair and maintenance of lockable hardware such as doors, automatic electric doors, windows, lockers, etc.
  4. Assists in the repair and maintenance to commercial HVAC systems and equipment.
  5. Assists with building security as needed.
  6. Diagnoses problems and performs necessary repairs on malfunctioning equipment and fixtures when assigned.
  7. Maintains accurate service and repair records.
  8. Maintains grounds care equipment.
  9. Maintains landscaping and grounds of the building including snow and ice removal.
  10. Maintains light fixtures and performs minor electric repairs including electrical wiring, switches, outlets, light ballasts, and other electrical fixtures.
  11. Monitors behavior of Library patrons when appropriate.
  12. Monitors electrical and HVAC systems.
  13. Operates a variety of hand and power equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  14. Performs routine carpentry work including sawing, routing, and jointing of wood.
  15. Performs maintenance related duties including assembling, moving, and adjusts shelving.
  16. Performs maintenance related duties including shifting furniture and/or equipment.
  17. Performs maintenance related duties including routine painting, plastering and wall repair.
  18. Performs maintenance related duties repairing general furniture and equipment.
  19. Performs janitorial duties including vacuuming, carpet cleaning, hard floor care, cleaning restrooms, and general housekeeping tasks as assigned.
  20. Picks-up and delivers Library materials and runs errands as necessary.
  21. Prepares daily opening and closing of the Library as needed.
  22. Prepares and sets up meeting rooms and uses related scheduling software programs.
  23. Attends appropriate meetings, workshops, and seminars.
  24. Serves on committees as assigned.
  25. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/skill with Microsoft Office applications

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

High school diploma (or equivalent work experience) required. Demonstrated maintenance work experience required. Position related and office related technology skills also required. Experience with public buildings and/or Library desirable. Certification and training in related fields a plus.
