What are the responsibilities and job description for the Torch Operator position at MPG Transport?
MPG Transport, Inc. is a regional transportation company specializing in hauling waste and recyclables. The Torch Operator is responsible for preparing ‘cut grade’ scrap to specified measurements and qualities for varying mill and foundry requirements. This process entails using oxygen/propane burning torches with varying tips for variant thickness and chemistry material(s). It is important to know and use the proper PPE and practices for maintaining safe and clean equipment to reduce incident from blowback, leaking hoses, etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
- Complete requisite safety training, and employ safe work practices
- Review daily load list and execute on daily goals
- Safely, efficiently prepare ‘cut grades’ for mill and foundry specifications
- Inspect materials for appropriate grading compliance
- Maintain equipment (torch, tips, hoses, reels)
- Maintain a clean and presentable work area
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position will be working both indoors and outdoors, year-round. Exposure to seasonal elements is expected. If travel is required, the normal automobile and air travel hazards will apply.
- Include physical demands – standing, lifting, other expectations or occasional tasks.
- Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND EDUCATION
- High School diploma preferred
- Existing knowledge and experience with oxygen/propane burning torches with varying tips for variant thickness and chemistry material(s) preferred
- Knowledge and experience in the use of proper PPE and practices for maintaining safe and clean equipment to reduce incident from blowback, leaking hoses, etc
- Must learn and understand our administrative software (ADP) for time tracking
