What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations Manager position at MTRWestern?
POSITION SUMMARY: General purpose of the job.
This position provides day-to-day support for the operations of the assigned station location. This includes overseeing the facility as well as the communication and interactions between departments. Overall, leading the station with an emphasis in driving safety, controlling expenses and adhering to our budgeting goals. The role is critical to the development and foundation of building culture within the station paying particularly close attention to the relationships with each of our drivers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Primary on-going responsibilities that are necessary to accomplish the purpose of the job and meet our goals of the station.
- Handle all Payroll functions
- Review timesheets
- Review Per Diem
- Expense Reports
- Driver interviewing – in conjunction with communication with H/R, oversee all interviewing and evaluating driver talent.
- DriveCam - directly manages and oversees all events and involves Safety when events require additional support through Safety policies.
- I-Tracker – directly manages and oversees that all events are assigned and properly closely out, including necessary post-accident review.
- Samsara – oversees and reviews daily in conjunction w/ reviewing payroll, and also makes HOS edits
- Licensing of vehicles
- Implement a weekly station meeting with all necessary department leads
- Schedule weekly/bi-weekly 1:1s with operations team members allowing time to communicate directly with each direct report
- Regular check-in’s with drivers
- All availability questions go through the Operations Manager for large moves and before giving an answer to Sales, work with Ops team to review schedule and determine how we can fit it in.
- Books all hotel accommodations for FlixBus, charters or sending drivers out of town.
- Properly documents Driver Coaching and Progressive Discipline and makes HR, Safety and Director of Operations aware when applicable.
- Establishes relationship, coordinates and works with competitor affiliates (Farm)
- Annual driver performance reviews; however, we never wait until the end of the year to have communications with our drivers. That is ongoing every single day and making it a point to interact and engage with the drivers.
Management and Oversight
Drivers:
- Hire, manage and dismiss Drivers. Ensures Drivers are issued, understand and comply with the MTRWestern Driver Reference Guide.
- Inspects and corrects Driver’s appearance and hygiene daily.
- Debriefs Driver’s on accident/collision reports.
- Approves/rejects driver PTO and non-PTO requests and simultaneously enters dates in Coach Manager.
- Approves Driver payroll and cross-checks punch card in and out times with paperwork and Samsara.
- Check Driver logs and HOS daily. Make changes as needed. Ensure Drivers have the available hours to perform the work they are given.
- Check Driver’s daily inspections to ensure they are following company policy for pre and post trip inspections.
- Manages the Driver safety & training responsibilities for the location in conjunction with Director of Safety.
Wash Crew:
- Hire and dismiss Wash Crew employees. Approves/rejects wash crew PTO and non-PTO requests.
- Reviews MTRWestern Wash Crew policies with each member and maintains a signed copy.
- Manages the Wash Crew. Ensures all buses leave the yard cleaned to MTR standards.
- Ensures the Wash Crew is fully trained in appropriate policies, procedures and IT systems.
- Observes Wash Crew operations at least one day a week.
- Monitor that the Wash Crew washing schedule
Facilities & Equipment:
- Conducts a daily interior and exterior inspection of at least 25% of the on-site vehicles. Deficiencies will be reported to Maintenance or Wash Crew. A log of inspections and deficiencies will be maintained.
- Responsible for the overall material condition of the station, including the shop and remote facilities.
- Ensures compliance with company needs for capital investments and improvement projects.
- Ensures OSHA compliance
STATUS & SCOPE: Reporting relationships, special skills and abilities required to perform essential job functions.
- Position reports to Director of Operations.
- Direct Reports: Drivers, Maintenance and Wash Crew. The Operations Manager must develop a strong relationship with Lead Mechanic and the station Maintenance Crew.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
