What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Engineer II position at MTSDV - Motorsports?

Yamaha has an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer II to join our Marine team in Kennesaw, GA. The Marine Development Engineer II will support Watercraft Engineering staff and develop new projects per the concept request of the Waverunner Product Planning team. 

 

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Responsible for design, development, documentation, and transfer of new products to factory engineering team including the creation of 3D models, 2D drawings, Bills of Materials.
  • Provide suppliers with necessary design information to develop components/systems as needed. Ensure production of quality products per industry compliance and Yamaha standards (YGK, WTS and WVDG).
  • Oversee the fabrication of prototypes and pre-production components for testing and evaluation.  Test trip preparation and post testing teardown.   Evaluation of tested components, and test report composition.   
  • Coordinate & plan necessary laboratory and ride testing applicable to the platform being developed.  Analyze, interpret, and summarize testing results to determine direction for development of project.
  • Manage product development process to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.  Utilize Yamaha development process and maintain communication with other business functions.
  • Assist in executing design and qualification test criteria and QFD targets to ensure a product which meets Yamaha performance, quality & reliability requirements.
  • May lead development of components or sub-systems within new platforms
  • May lead testing activities involving the sourcing and fabrication of prototypes for new product development

What you need to be successful: 

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • 3-5 years experience in design engineering, product development, or similar
  • Experience in: Machining, Casting, & Molded parts (plastic).
  • NX or Solidworks 3D modeling experience required.
  • Strong hands-on shop and fabrication skills
  • Desired experience with ANSI Y14.5, GD&T & Tolerance Stack-up.
  • FEA & Surfacing experience is a plus.
  • Must possess good engineering judgment and analysis.
  • Proficient in MS Office (i.e., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize changing work loads.
  • Strong oral & written communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be able to travel to factory, suppliers and various testing/research locations.
  • Hobbies or interests that relate to water / watersports / automotive – transportation industries
  • Testing, or data acquisition experience a major positive
