SUMMARY
Our Springfield, MO Stainless Steel Fabrication Division currently has an opening for a Grinder. The Grinder will be responsible for knowing all the different grades of #4 finishes and be proficient with all the tools necessary to attain the different finishes, in a safe and effective manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

- Finish grind stainless steel to a uniform RA finish of minimum 32 RA, down to a 5 RA.
- Set up and Operate, and be proficient with flex shaft, right angle, dyna file, and air motor.
- Good knowledge of the different grades of #4 polish finishes, along with the tools and supplies used in each stage of completion.
- Operate safety equipment, and use safe work practices
- Comfortable with working around and using overhead cranes and rigging, as needed.
- Generate good housekeeping habits
- Turn in all time, required paperwork; to include vendor tickets and material requisitions
- Operate equipment and machinery in the performance of these essential duties
- Work with and around hazardous materials, as well as at heights and in confined spaces in the performance of these essential duties
- Drive a vehicle to various job-sites throughout working hours
- Maintain valid driver s license and driving record that meets company policy
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
- Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for employee job performance
- Perform other duties as assigned
ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Exposure to varying indoor and outdoor conditions, loud noise, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, varying fumes or odors; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; and work in ditches/excavations
- Work at heights, such as by working on ladders, scaffolds, platforms, tops of single and multi-story buildings, as well as working in confined spaces such as underneath single story and multi-story buildings
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs
- Must be able to perform manual and repetitive tasks and body movements including climbing, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, walking, standing, and carrying; moving materials and manipulating things
- Must be able to work in overhead structures and around and beneath machinery
- Considerable physical effort of hands and arms required; the employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects with considerable weight
- Must be able to complete job duties proficiently while adapting to changing demands and priorities
- Must have the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and concentrate for long periods of time to perform duties in a safe manner

SAFETY SENSITIVE
This position is designated as a safety sensitive position because it includes as part of the job duties operating a motor vehicle, the operating, maintaining, and monitoring of heavy equipment and machinery, and working with and around hazardous materials, at heights, and in confined spaces. This position is one in which a lapse of attention could result in injury, illness, or death. For the safety of the employee and others, the employee must be able to work in a constant state of alertness and concentrate for long periods of time while operating a motor vehicle, operating, maintaining, and monitoring heavy equipment and machinery, and while working with and around hazardous materials, at heights, and in confined spaces.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- Must possess strong mathematical skills and demonstrate a competency in the use of fractions and decimals.
- Ability to read a tape measure and angle finders with occasional need for calipers
- Be proficient in MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and Stick (SMAW) welding
- Possess a good working knowledge of heat related stresses and warping properties, pertaining to the assembly and weld out of various shapes and metal types, as required to achieve acceptable craftsmanship of fabricated items
- Must understand bend angles and degrees; with proper allowances for metal thicknesses
- Be competent at calculating metal stretch-outs and circumferences
- Be competent at deburring, grinding, finishing and polishing, of raw edges, welds and joints of fabricated items and exercise good judgement as to the finish requirements of individual projects and fabricated items
- Develop good analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings, and be able to visualize objects in three dimensions from flat layout drawings
- All employees must provide and maintain the required tool inventory for this position
- Understand cuts, copes, miters, takeoffs and allowances associated with structural steel fabrication
- Working knowledge of stair runs and risers in relation to design and structural platforms
- Understanding OSHA regulations, codes, and ergonomics as it pertains to stair and platform applications
- Certified in the safe operation of overhead cranes, rigging, and lifting practices
- Must be able to work in a team environment
- Ability to communicate clearly with other employees
- Good organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to complete daily tasks with limited supervision and minimal errors requiring re-work
- Ability and willingness to work overtime and non-standard schedule: nights, weekends and holidays as/if needed
- A current valid driver s license is required
