We're looking for LPNs to join our START Program (Chemical Dependent OB unit) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Washington. Up to $10,000 sign on bonus available for 0.75 FTE and above.
Position Summary:
The LPN is a licensed nursing team member working under the direction of a Physician, Advanced Practice Provider, Registered Nurse or designee to provide quality care that is focused on the comfort and well being of the patient and family. The LPN is familiar with the normal stages of growth and development and signs of aging, and is responsible for providing age appropriate care. This position requires a service-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills. For the purpose of delivering and executing daily routine care and services to patients from diverse ethnic and social groups, some independent decision-making is expected in the execution of daily routine duties. The LPN assists the Registered Nurse or care team in implementing the nursing process. Decisions regarding patient care or services require the review and approval of the Registered Nurse. Internal contacts may include patient care staff, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Radiology, and other department’s staff and management. External contacts include physicians, patients, families, and visitors.
About Good Samaritan Hospital START Unit
The START Unit provides 3-5 days of medical stabilization/withdrawal management, followed by intensive inpatient treatment for up to 26 total days of admission. This treatment program includes:
- 1:1 time with counselor, group educational and recovery activities – using trauma-informed approaches
- Engage with 12-step recovery concepts
- Care coordination and social work
- Educational and recovery resource connections
- Medications for addiction treatment
- Pregnancy-specific addiction consultation
- Recreational activities – (knitting, crochet, mindful activities like coloring)
- Prenatal care and connection to community OB providers
The START Unit provides education around prenatal care, childbirth, postpartum care, and newborn/early infancy parenting. We also provide education around engaging with the healthcare system, self-advocacy, coping skills, and pain/symptom management options.
Minimum Requirements:

Previous experience as a LPN, in an acute care setting within the last three (3) years preferred
- Current experience in the assigned specialty, or successful completion of a specialty focused residency post hire.
